http://www.myspace.com/matthewchelen

the first one on the list is pretty good imo...though i'm not used to playing piano and i slipped up a few times

the other 2, the guitar's good but my singing is TERRIBLE

and then the cover one (if it ever finishes processing) was just a joke

I'd comment on them, but I'm in the college library and it does not allow you on MySpace.

Well for your age your guitar work is quite good. I like how you play.

I'm not so sure about the piano, but I think you plan to focus on guitar anyway.

You're not the most naturally gifted vocalist in the world (to put it kindly), but I suppose you do have your own unique style, and you really do give it a go when you're singing.

Nice work, keep it up and you'll keep improving.

Dude, it's just... Not good. Your singing doesn't help. You need more experience to execute your songs so that we can actually listen to them. And I think you know that.

Get more comfortable with singing and playing your instrument. Make a band with a bunch of friends and cover stuff from the 60s and 70s. There's no instant rockstar for you at the moment, sorry.

Keep it up though. And sing with more power. The way you're singing there.. It sounds like you're about to die. I almost feel sorry for you.

haha
i know
i'm not generally an acoustic guitarist...i play metal and grunge...i was just messing around with songs i'd written before that got cast out by the band b/c the dude doesn't like that kind of song...
if i ever sing, i usually sing screamo
BUT
i can't play metal or grunge and have it sound good without having a drum backtrack and i can't play drums so...yeah

you want covers?
look here

music styles vary, stay away from anything that's more than 3 months old

Well, that's more interesting than your myspace stuff. Don't let the YouTube downvoters get to you, they're just trolling around. All of your videos I watched deserved at least 3 stars, judging by what other people post on that hellhole of a site.
Anyway, play that material with an actual band, it's more fun that way and the experience is invaluable.
I grew up as a musician covering random shit with my friends, and I ended up playing Jazz-Rock percussions and drums in indy bands, that's what brought me there and the crowd enjoyed the results.
That doesn't mean you should stop writing songs, of course.. Being creative is always great. Just get some inspiration and become comfortable jamming around, that's what I'm saying.

your guitar songs are awesome, the second one was brilliant, nice lyrics,
but im afraid your singing isnt the best,
BUT STILL i salut you for being able to sing and play at the same time, its impossible for me cause number one i dont sing and number two i allways mess up on guitar or start singing gibberish by accident,

i play guitar now, since christmas acually
