a lil wager for ya'll

Post by Blorx » Fri Feb 08, 2008 12:31 am

ok so i'm extremely bored...so...
to those of you that actually listened to my vocals on the songs i wrote when i posted the link in that thread (and to anyone that still might b/c of this wager), umm...i bet i can sing within one octave of what claudio sanchez sings in and have the same inflection in my voice
i'm going to do a vocal track of welcome home BY 11:59 PM ON SUNDAY

and you guys will do this for me:
1. decide whether this bet is actually worth it
2. if it is worth it, decide the terms
and
3. anyone who wants to will judge on a scale of 1-5

even my best friend laughed when he heard i thought i could do this so...idk...it's a time-killer...

You could play Karaoke Revolution or Rock Band to get some visual feedback of what pitch you are singing at, and have a bet based on that so you have a more objective way to judge it.

You don't need to be a vocal specialist to recognize an octave. I play piano and have perfect pitch.

I can't sing for shit, of course, cuz my total vocal range in speech/song/everything is limited to maybe two octaves. (-.-) But I can tell when anyone else is off-tune, and it drives me insane. (The curse of perfect pitch...) More to the point, I can tell when I'm off-tune, and it drives me insane, which is why I never sing even to myself.

But if you're like me, and can sing at perfect pitch almost all the time, but can't listen to something and say which octave it is (Other than just singing the exact same note, of course)…

I can sing at the right note if it's within my pathetically limited range, sure. No, what I mean by having perfect pitch is that I can hear any note and tell what it is. I was surprised, several years ago, to realize that it was a relatively rare ability; I was under the impression most musicians could, but it turned out I was the one tuning people's guitars 'n' the like in band.

Tell what it is as in "This is E Flat", or what?

Bullshit alert.

Yeah I'm sure you could tell if he was singing within an octave of Claudio.

LOL no.

Yes, BwS.

Don't talk about music if you don't know shit about it, Ren.

"Within an octave" is a pretty strange way to judge singing; usually it is more important that you are singing the same pitch even if you are in a totally different octave.
