I suck at Pokemon.

A while ago I was searching through my house, and I found a bunch of old games, I couldn't sell them because they were too old for any game shop to want them, so I tried a few.

Pokemon Yellow is the first one that got my attention...

I loaded up the game to find I had no idea where I was or why I wanted to be there, and that my pokemon was named -,! or something along those lines. So I started again.

I couldn't think of a name for me or my enemy, so I just called myself Pretzel and my enemy Onion, I remembered about the tall grass being bad for some reason, so I went into it, obviously, and Oak stopped me, caught a Pokemon and took me to his lab where he performs cruel experiments on Pokemon.

I met Onion for the first time, who stole my Pokemon (which turned out to be an Eevee... One of my favorite Pokemon..) and I was stuck with a Pikachu which I nicknamed EiD, because that's the name of the cute yet homicidal demon I draw sometimes.

Me and EiD went up into the unknown, and found another town (after fighting a bunch of weaklings) so we went into the shop to buy something, only I had no money.. I delivered a package to Oak to earn some money, and he gave the package to me. (which made me wonder why I had to give it to him if it was for me anyway.) I find out then that me and Onion were the only two people he trusted enough to find every single pokemon known to mankind, (and more) and record data on them all.

So I went back up to the town, then further up, fought a bunch of pokemon trainers (because everyone in this world is obsessed with animal cruelty.) and only after I got to the town remembered that my mum would have given me running shoes, which would have made my job alot easier.

*Sigh*

I hate this next part..

I remembered this part from my last try and the hours of failure it gave me... See, I had to battle Brock, who uses rock pokemon.

Lightning doesn't work on rocks.

EiD uses lightning.

At first, I captured a nice array of weaklings.

A pigeon/eagle hybrid called Wing.

A cocoon called Catterpi (because I spelled Caterpie wrong.)

A worthless little rhino girl thing called DrillThorn.

And a Rat thing I named Noun because I ran out of names.

Anyway, I started training up DrillThorn, only to find it was rubbish even against enemies of it's own level, so I leveled up Wing for a while, and came to the same conclusion.. Noun actually beat a few enemies that were higher than it's own level, but it was taking far too long to get any of them to a desirable power level.

In the end, I started training up EiD so he might learn an attack that doesn't require lightning, he learned thunderwave, then he learned quick attack (he forgot something else but it was worthless anyway) and then he learned double team, since I didn't know what it did but wanted it anyway I put that over Growl because I hardly use that at all, unless it's an accident.

After several failures, days of Grinding and endless stupidity on my behalf, I finally was strong enough to take on Brock.

ATTEMPT 1:
I was too weak, and had too few pokemon, Noun died within the first fight and EiD managed to wear him down to about 4 or 5 Hp, but then EiD died too and Catterpi had to fight for me, only he's a metapod, so he can't fight at all.

ATTEMPT 2:
"Come on EiD.. Just one more- FUDGE!"
*Dead*
*Out goes Noun*
"Ok then, you do it."
*bang*
*killed it*
"Ugh.. Finally, now then- HOLY SHIZ ONIX!"
*Smack*
*Dead*
"Argh.. Why didn't I see this coming from the Anime?"
*Drillthorn*
*smack*
*dead*
*repeat*

ATTEMPT 3:
I sent the weaklings out first, who wore down Geodude to an acceptable amount of health before dying, EiD then took the spotlight and wiped out Geodude with some Quick attacks and Double Teams (which, as it turns out, make EiD dodge better.)

When Onix came out I knew I should have saved the potion for later, EiD was strong enough to survive for a long time but it didn't seem like he would win.

While Onix was Biding his time I used some double teams, and when they stopped working I used thunderbolts because they did nothing, EiD was quick enough that he could get attacks in before Onix started biding again, so it was a slow process of damage then waiting..

After a while Onix got the picture that biding wasn't working too well and started tackling every now and again, the only way I can describe the ending is Epic... I had about 3 or 4 HP left because of the various Tackles, he had about a pixel of HP left, and he tackled me one last time...

AND MISSED

I took my chance and quick attacked him before he could Tackle again, and survived with one out of 4 pokemon (I sent Catterpi into "someones" PC because he couldn't do any attacks except for struggle, and that's just useless).

I have more horrible and brilliant stories, but my hands are hurting for some reason.

That was actually a quite enjoyable read, and I can relate to it because I've played those games so many times.

I always thought it was worth it training Catterpi and Metapod, because once you get them to level 10 they evolve into Butterfree. And he's pretty cool. Especially when you get him to high levels and he has confusion and sleep powder.

A few questions I need to ask-

How do you get money?
Is there a specific way to beat Brock?
How the fudge do you get money? I need it all the time and It's hard to prepare for quests/whatever when the only way to get money is by beating said quests.

And I had some others but I forgot them..

I sneaked past a few Pokemon trainers to the east (ok, alot of them saw me.) and found a Poke-center with a cave next to it, obvously, the cave must have been my quest, so I healed up and went inside. I wandered around aimlessly and found a random guy, he said I looked suspicious and tried to kill me with Pokemon...

Everyone does that in this game.

I kicked his ass because all he had were low level Weedles and Caterpies, so a bunch of thunderbolts got rid of them. (But EiD got damaged because Noun was first for some reason, so I had to switch)

Anyway, my extreme lack of any sense of direction soon became a problem.

I fought a bunch of bat things, found another Geodude (then forgot I could run away and got EiD killed) fought a team rocket member (and won! WOO!) and then got even more lost.

Infact that's where I am right now, in that cave, trying to kill off my last pokemon so I can go back to the Pokecenter.

Also, I just realized I never picked up the running shoes from my mum..

So, I'll add one last question-

Where the heck am I supposed to go now?

Hahaha I actually found my gameboy colour and started playing Pokemon Gold again for a while. Beat the ice gym guy, Paine or Blaine or something.

1. I don't think you get running shoes in this version. There's a bike later.

2. You have to beat Brock before you get through the cave. I'm pretty sure of that.

3.

There's your problem. Beating pokemon trainers gets you some money.

Use water or grass pokemon on Brock to defeat him...if you don't have any you'll have to be a few levels above his Pokémon to win...

KAN'T REEKORD PAKAMON!!!

I can't believe that out of all the elements they could choose for the various pokémon, they had to choose GRASS. Seriously, why grass of all things? It's not even part of the standard Earth Fire Air Water system!

I suppose calling it grass is better than calling it weed. Why do you think the grass pokemon look all gimpy in the beginning? People rip leaves off of them.

Yeah I mean come on it's not even part of the elemental system that they have in 1000 other games already. An elemental system which is oh-so-original.

*sarcasm detector explodes*

Forgive them for not following the rules you think they should have followed.

Enough of THAT

This was a long time ago so all memory of that cave has disappeared.. Except for an encounter with jessie and james (the only reason I used to watch the anime/cartoon).

Erm, I ended up at a new town with yet another gym, but I couldn't get to it. So I wondered around aimlessly for a while until I managed to find Onion just north of the town.

Of course, he wanted to see my Pokemon. So EiD killed all of his pokemon easily because the training necessary to get quick attack and the other attacks I could use against Brock put him at.. Level.. 20 something. I can't remember.

After that there were more trainer fights, an encounter with a team rocket goon and a quick chat with a man who'd turned himself into a pokemon. (who then gave me a ticket to the SS Anne).

So, I went to the 'anne and went straight to meet the captain because everyone else wanted to kill my pokemon, and, once again, met Onion. I beat him up again and spoke to the captain, who gave me a thingy that made my pokemon learn cut..

None of my pokemon could learn "cut"...

I wondered around for a while again until I found some lonely guy who decided he didn't want his Charmander anymore. I leapt at the chance because Charmanders rock, and cleverly named him EmalF.

Funnily enough, EmalF was ready to learn Cut, so he did and I cut my way to the gym.

At the gym, it was all water types, so EiD took the spotlight, as usual.

I was very fond of EmalF, because Charmanders are my favorite pokemon next to Cubone/Marowak, so I used him for most of my battles from then on.

Then came a problem..

I had 3 badges, but now I needed a rainbow badge.

Where do I get the rainbow badge?...

Hm..

Cliffhanger.
More tomorrow.

What sucks now is that EmalF is stuck with Cut...you should have just grabbed a Weed...Weed...Bulb...pokemon thing...they look like a weed. Its been years since I've played this game...give me a break.

Trivia: 4Kids cut out a few episodes involving Jessie and James, including the one where James (who if you noticed loves to wear women's clothing) gets a sex change so he could get near Pikachu...

But why grass?

Wait a second..

I forgot about the electric Gym... Oops..

Well, that was boring anyway. EiD just kept using his new Smash power.

EmalF was leveling up quite nicely, whereas EiD was extremely overpowered and could kill anything he wanted easily, EmalF was actually slightly above average.

He didn't know very good moves, but at some point I taught him dig (Don't worry Gray, it was a TM move) which came in handy against the hundreds of Geodudes I had to fight later.

I started using EmalF even more than EiD, because EiD was far too powerful, and EmalF wasn't powerful enough anymore, so I needed some levelling up.

Oh, and a police officer gave me a Squirtle which I named TeW. I'm so creative.

I like squirtles but simply couldn't level him up without neglecting EmalF, and I prefered EmalF, so I found a weird little day care thing and left TeW there, I promised I would come back after I got the rainbowbadge.

Now then, NONE of my pokemon knew flash, and the only way to the next town needed flash. I didn't know where to get flash.

I tried just walking through Rock Cave without flash, but the amount of trainer battles overwhelmed EiD, so I got sent back to the Pokecenter.

After several failures and frustrating fights, something happened..

It showed EmalF on the screen.

"What? EmalF is evolving!"

"FUDGE YES"

I forgot what they're called but EmalF is now one of those things that are better than Charmander! (I'll have to check my pokedex later.)

But that didn't help, he was still too weak to fight off the trainers, and it was only until later that I gave up and wandered randomly for ages.

I ended up going back to my home town, just to see what was there.

Mum had no running shoes, that must have been a different game.

Oak did have something for me though, apparently I could now learn Flash if I found Aide.

I needed flash.

Desperately.

I found the right Aide and he gave me flash and the only pokemon who could use it was EiD..

...

I know, it was a stupid move, but Flash lowers accuracy anyway so I didn't really need double team.

So, I lost double team and gained flash.

After frustrating hours of play in that dungeon (I got REALLY pissed off at the random encounters because those damn hikers kept killing me so I had to go back and go through the run process again.) I finally made it to the next town, seemed nice from the name, Lavender town. Though something just seemed wrong, the first person I talked to asked me if I believed in ghosts, just to be the typical horror movie character I said no.

The next guy I talked to told me this town is known as the pokemon graveyard.

That's... Really depressing.

When I found I needed something else to move ahead, I left the town and headed west, this town looks like it's owned by team rocket, which is more depressing. (I'm not sure, but the first guy I saw was team rocket and he didn't try to kill me or run from the cops, he just told me not to stand in team rocket's way.)

Right now, EiD still knows Flash, EmalF is still evolved (yay) and TeW is still in the day care, levelling up his little turtle ass.

More when I do something.

Charmander ---> Charmeleon ---> Charizard.

You should have named EiD "PaZ" instead.

When I first played Pokemon Blue, the pokemon I chose was Squirtle. I used Squirtle ALL the time. Before long he evolved into Wartortle and then Blastoise. He was probably at level 50 when everyone else was at level 30. He slaughtered everyone.

These days I go for a more measured approach. In my Pokemon Gold game, I have my 6 pokemon all at level 30, and all of them are still higher levels than the gym leader pokemon. This way, I can destroy almost anyone quickly easily, making use of the system of elemental weaknesses. I prefer having 6 equally strong pokemon to one or two godly pokemon. It's more fun.

It's time for good news bad news.

The bad news is, my gameboy screen is cracked so I can't see the menu for attacks and stuff.

The good news is, I'm borrowing one.

The bad news is, they don't know I'm borrowing it.

The good news is, they won't care.

So then, onto pokemon.

Ah.. There's alot to talk about.

Ok, this team rocket town I forgot the name had a big shop, I went inside and bought a firestone in the hopes of evolving EmalF into a Charizard early but of course that didn't work. I kept the stone anyway and went exploring, found an eevee (Named OvE), found a vending machine, got a drink, gave it to a guard so he let me through all of those gates, found another town, fought the fighters gym and got a Hitmonchan (named Gloves), let my friend have a go, he used the fire stone on OvE (which I didn't want to do) then found the team rocket base and did a bunch of stuff, so I had to save, I got the silph scope and changed the name of OvE to EriF.

Ok? Caught up?

Good.

I headed up the pokemon tower, because I knew the silph scope would allow me to get up there. Here is a small insight into my head during my first steps up those.. Steps.

"Ugh.. This had better not be a Zelda style dungeon or something."

"..."

"It's... A maze... Made.. Of Gravestones.."

"..."

"Jesus christ, how many Pokemon die in this game?"

I wondered how many children were traumatized as a child by this maze of the dead, then decided to go ask for some help.

Help turned out to be possessed.

I kicked the ghosts ass and wrote a mental note that this place was full of possessed people. Which is a fancy way of saying Pokemon trainer with ghosts. I headed up the stairs, right to the top (resting at the holy thingy) kicked some more ghost ass and finally got to fight the ghost of the tower.

I hesitated to attack once I saw what it was..

I was fighting a Marowak.

*sigh*

I used EmalF on him because EiD was too powerful as it was, and he needed sum levels. I continued, hoping I would find my own cubone/marowak someday, and found that the defective duo of Jessie and James wanted to fight again.

Fortunatly experimentation had shown that Team Rocket's pokemon were weak to a couple hundred volts down their spine.

I found someone called "Mr. Fugi" and took him back to his house. He gave me a pokeflute and set me on my way.

(Is this long enough?... Damnit.)

Oh yeah. I finally got the rainbow badge. Wasn't anything big, I just went in there and kicked ass with EmalF and EiD.

I went back to the day care and got TeW, who'd levelled by 10 levels. Levelly level level.

The extra levels (levelly level) put him just under average, so I combined him and EmalF to help put some power on him. When he became about average I let him fight on his own and etc. etc.

Some other stuff happened I can't remember..

2 things I do remember.

DUBBLE EVOLISHON.

EmalF and TeW both became Charizard and Wartortle. Respectively of course.

Now TeW was one of my more common pokemon and EmalF and EiD were my backup team.

I would write more, but that's enough as it is. More later.
