From the Bible to sex? Inevitable I suppose.

On a vaguely related topic; by British law cousins are considered distant enough to not be incest (though most people still frown on that sort of thing).

The only real reason incest is bad (assuming you have a genuine loving relationship) is the deformed children it can cause. Theoretically, contraception should make that a non-issue.

Bit weird tho who seriously finds their own family attractive?

Does it say in the bible that incest is bad?

I think that is a modern day thought. People like to make fun of the south and the elitists who only inbreed.

Hey, there's a whole lot in the bible pertaining to sex. There are a lot of passages devoted to explaining the dos and do nots of sex.

And I guess it'd be weird like... I have to admit my older sister is pretty attractive, but it's not like I'm attracted to her. ¬_¬ When you grow up with someone like that it's hard to suddenly be physically attracted to them. Even if it's just a close friend you've had from childhood, it'd be weird to date them. Maybe it's just that you know them in another way. It's a complex subject I really don't care to get in to.

Yes, I'm quiet sure it does somewhere. I tried to find it after my last post without much luck. I wasn't searching to long though.

Incest happened all the time in the bible though. Not just cousins having kids together, brothers and sisters.

From psychological research I have seen, there are a number of factors involved in interpersonal physical attraction:

1) Similarity to a prototypical face (i.e. the average of all faces you have seen) This indicates that this person is healthy and has no visible genetic problems.

2) Specific features that are universally attractive (e.g. cheekbones, chin definition, etc.)

3) Individual preferences (hair color, eye color, athletic, etc.)

4) Similarity to your own face

5) How often you see that person

6) How attractive other people find that person


This is relevant because the fourth and fifth factors I listed may contribute to incest. Why are we talking about this again?

I'm sorry, but when I discovered that fact, incest just became a whole new world of wrong. It's against nature.

And what, pray, IS nature other than our state of being? If people (who are natural) are finding each other attractive when perhaps they shouldn't, I'm afraid to say but that is nature at work. It might well be doing a poor job in this case, but the whole point of evolution and natural selection is that nature isn't a force or design - and mistakes can, will and do happen.

It's wrong in this society, but there's a lot of cultures in which it is perfectly acceptable.

E.g. around here there are families we call travellers. I think, as far as is apparent to me, that the American term for such people is "white trash". The kind of people that live in caravans and stuff. They're blamed for a lot of the crime around here. Anyway, many of these traveller families often marry cousins inside their own family. It's pretty much normal for them.

Anyway, I don't call them sick or horrible because it's not my place to. It's their decision I think. When society starts dictating who you're allowed show affection to...it reminds me of the Muslim faith, or many other groups or cultures who have specific groups you're allowed marry into. I recall a Muslim father over in America shooting his two daughters dead because they were dating non-Muslim men. He called it an "honour killing". Would you kill your daughter for dating her cousin and call it an "honour killing"?

White trash, hillbilly, hick, whatever I hate them all.Because for one, it's not always just cousins. We hear about it being like dad's and daughters alot. Sometimes even brother and sister or brother and brother. However, like you said, in some cultures it is acceptable, because it seems that sister and sister is fine with the world. But I also hate them because they are racist bastards who blame immigrants for all their problems. Also they tend to smell... thats why I didn't stay down south long.

I have to agree.

I find the concept of incest extremely disturbing, but as long as it doesn't affect me in any way, then I don't care. Of course, if it's one of my own relatives doing it to me, then they're going to get their head dented, but that's a story for another day.

Hey, I agree about the PHEREMONES!!! - but I think the point really is that if they are finding each other attractive then the PHEREMONES!!! are probably just Pheremones!? in that instance.

Also if incest is non-volantary (sp?) then I'd say the incestual part is the least of your worries. Rape's rape whatever else it might be. And if I hear people make the "surprise sex" arguement one more time I think I'm gonna scream

One of my old freinds has joined a Web based cult that say food is evil, and teachs them anirexia. there an emo as well. Im half way around the world from them and they have stoped talking to me so I dont have a life line with them.
