3d freeware for mac?

Post by resin » Wed Oct 01, 2008 12:53 pm

I'm looking around for some decent 3d package for mac, either cheap or free, for teaching middleschool students the very basics. Less complicated would probably be better. Anyone got any suggestions?

Try some Legos or Duplos... I know it's not for the computer but it can still be fun =) (they did make 'Lego Creator' though)

Not exactly cheap, however. Sorry. I heard there was a program called "Blender" but I don't know what OS's it runs on, or how complicated it is...

Blender is free and available for a bunch of platforms, but it can be complicated to use; it's on roughly the same scale as a full-featured commercial product like Maya, 3ds Max, etc.

For just the basics, you might want to try Google SketchUp. It's free, easy to use, and they've got a page specifically for K-12 education  : http://sketchup.google.com/customers/edu/primary.html

Thanks! I was just looking at Blender but I think Sketchup is much more what I had in mind.
