New Computer

Post by Renegade_Turner » Mon Dec 08, 2008 7:02 pm

MEDION AG Professional PC
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
32-bit Windows Vista Home Premium OS
3.00 GB RAM

DirectX Version 10.0

GeForce 8600 GT

Is this good? This is good, right? My brother just gave it to us. It runs Left 4 Dead and Spore and stuff grand. I wonder how it compares to the new computers the Wolfire team bought.

I'd say that's a pretty sweet computer.

Same amount of CPU power as the MacBook Pro version of the computer I'm using now, only quad core, an extra gig of RAM (although we could've upgraded this one to 4GB, only there isn't much benefit to getting more RAM after a certain point, depending on the memory requirements of what you use and how many things you generally have running at once.

Just my 2¢.

I generally like having a lot of stuff running at the same time, like Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger, iTunes, Firefox, IE. I'd have those 5 running at least, then probably more on top of that and lots of different windows. The extra power is pretty neat, no more slowdown.

Thanks for the thoughts, anyway. =D

There's the answer to both your questions:
1. He didn't.
2. ¥0.00

Umm, I'm not exactly sure, but I think my brother bought it for like €750 (that's a Euro sign) about 6 months ago or so. The reason we have it now is because he couldn't afford to keep it so my mother bought it off him. I'll ask him exactly how much he paid for it and I'll get back to you.

A good thing about it is he gave it to me with the following already installed:

Games
- Portal
- Left 4 Dead
- Mass Effect
- Pro Evolution Soccer 2009
- Football Manager 2008
- The Lord Of The Rings Online
- SPORE
- Warhammer Online: Age Of Reckoning

Films & Series
- Versus (Japanese Action/Horror film. Kind of like The Matrix with zombies. Not sure whether my brother intended to or not, but he downloaded the Japanese version with no voice-overs or subtitles)
- 1984
- 21
- Babylon A.D.
- Dazed And Confused
- Futurama: The Beast With A Billion Backs
- Hancock
- Princess Mononoke
- Stargate: Continuum
- Sunshine
- The Strangers
- WALL-E
- Zeitgeist
- Planet Earth (Documentary series)
- Heroes Season 3 *dances*

So yeah. A buttload of shit on the computer.

Wait, you would have Yahoo! AND MSN messengers open at the same time? You really need to get an all-in-one app of the likes of Adium. :P

I have no idea why you would have IE and Firefox running at the same time though. NO idea.

Nah, Yahoo! and MSN are nice, I like them.

It's hard to explain. When I click a lot of links, they seem to want to open up in Firefox, and it takes ages to open up when it's not already open so I just have it open all the time so they don't have to open up the program. I prefer using IE to Firefox though, just like I prefer using the Yahoo! and MSN messengers.

Umm. Well Firefox comes up when I click on links in chat and stuff. Does that help?

I use IE as a force of habit. Plus I don't see much difference between them, at least not any beneficial ones.

I've found that sometimes different browsers will load different sites faster.
