I saw this on a different forum and I cried.

Holy crap, why?!

Their going down due to a lack of money. They may return from the dead someday, but for now were going to have to use different websites to find mods for some of out favorite games.

Well it was kind of a dick move to announce they were shutting down permanently four days before doing so.

It was ok site :p

OK SITE?! Dude, it hosted pretty much anything without download limits!

I suppose it would have been better if they'd just shut down without any warning at all, thus just cutting people off from their addiction to FileFront, forcing people to go FileFront Cold Turkey and not having to fret over the inevitable closing of the website.

That would have been even more of a dick move. It shows bad management. If they were serious of not wanting their site to close they would have let everyone know that there was a chance the site could shut down months in advance, possibility starting a "Save Filefront" movement or just asking for help from the public to figure out how they can keep operating. But, no, they did none of that.

The likelyhood is that they wanted their full customer base to keep returning right till the end, so they didn't lose too much money.

The moment you announce you might be in trouble, people start taking flight themselves.

Clearly you have lots of management experience from all of those years you spent running one of the biggest websites on the internet.

If they're closing down, it's probably something out of their control. So protesting about it would do nothing.

And if they just closed down one day without telling anyone that would piss us off even more.

It sucks, but we'll live (I'm sure the backups are somewhere).
Another site will come along and replace Filefront (you know it will). But we'll all remember it well, the website, Filefront, the one, the only, FileFrontier, that place that didn't smell like Windex, the place that held all our crap. FileFont. We'll remember it well, we'll always hold it dear and close to our hearts. That place, File-something-or-other-Frontage? Foilage? Fountain? Frolic. Filefrolic. That's right.

I bet someone is in the planning stages of something to replace Filefront or have similar services.

now why would someone replace something that obviously had an unsuccessful business plan with something similar? I think from now on there probably won't be sites too similar to filefront.
