ok so in this thread i thought about we could ask about some games we couldent remember,we can try and help each other out. Like if you dont remember the name of a game describe it and someone else who might remember it could reply "blah blah oh is it this one somthing something xD"
i can for an example start ._.
When i was 8 i played this 2d game on my pc where you seem to be a common normal boy who's whit his dog at school if i remember right, and its somthing about the sky turning dark in the intro the dog gets kidnapped by evil shadow looking creatures. So the boy runs home climbs in to his tree house where he has some electric lazer gun or somthing and a space pod of some sort and he flys out to find the dog crashes in some rocky place and your adventure starts.so you battle allot of black shadow thingies and the first lvl ends whit your awesome deadly lazer lightning gun thingie gets eaten and replaced whit your cap -.-. and i cant realy remember the rest xD can someone help me ? (feel free to reply)

Vaguely reminds me of an ancient game on the Lynx called something like Scrapyard Junk or something else... but I don't think that's what you're after. There was no treehouse in that game.
Sorry, can't help you xD
Great idea for a thread, though =D

This one reminds me of the Commander Keen series:

Not sure if it is though, because I can't remember a dog being kidnapped and also no black shadows, but I haven't played all of them, so ... yeah.

That's definitely Heart Of Darkness. I had it for my PSX when I was younger, dunno where it went. I found a torrent for it somewhere a year or two ago, so you can probably find it to download somewhere. I can't imagine a copy would be easy to locate, and I don't like the idea of having to buy something twice.
Anyway, I loved that game. It was great fun, and the shadow thingies were kind of scary. lol. The ways you could die were horrible, and incredibly graphic. Like being eaten up by shadow monsters. Yikes.
Here's the Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_of_Darkness_(game)
The game is also in some ways a spiritual successor to Eric Chahi's former games, Another World/Out Of This World and Flashback. Eric Chahi is the founder of Amazng Studio, the studio that developed Heart Of Darkness.
Another World (known as Out Of This World in the US) and Flashback were both critically acclaimed 2D side-scrollers. Another World in particular received praise and is still well-known to this day. It was even re-released on the Game Boy Advance.
I can remember playing it back in the days of the Amiga and stuff. My cousins had some computer (not sure exactly what the computer was called) but anyway it had Another World and stuff on it. Whenever I went to their house, I'd play it. I never actually completed it until I downloaded it for the GBA emulator a couple years back.
Anyway, to sum it up, reccommend Another World/Out Of This World, Flashback and Heart Of Darkness if you can find them. All three games are well worth a go.

Zhukov just had a... flashback
*explodes*
Anyways, somebody suggested flashback on the IRC a few days ago and I tried it on a SNES emulator. Pretty cool, but actually rather short =(

I remember one game I played a while back for PSX. It was an RPG from what I remember and made by Square Soft (now Square Enix). I think it was published somewhere around 1999-2001, though I can't be sure. I know that the battle system was pretty simple but unique; it was turn-based, with up to 4 people on a side in a battle, and when you picked a spell/attack you would scroll between menus for each character to see their available weapons and the skills they had for those weapon-types. I also remember that you could do one-on-one battles, and then, the attack interface would change and you could select more specific attacks for weapons (eg; in a group battle, a sword's basic attack would be Slash, but here it would have Slash, Backslash, and Cleave) and you would pick 4 commands and then fight out a turn. Oh, and some of the commands entered in the right order could combo up to make new, more powerful moves.
I've looked for the case or disc everywhere but can't find any game among my collection of retro games that fits the description above. I dunno if anyone here will know it, but hey, it's worth a shot. Hopefully there's an emulator version somewhere so I can get back into it.
