21st Century Breakdown

Post by Blorx » Sun May 31, 2009 1:16 pm

Does NOT come ANYWHERE close to American Idiot. Wake up people. It's really not that great. There are only 2 songs that stand out imo (Know Your Enemy and Christian's Inferno) and Know Your Enemy is freaking repetitive and Christian's Inferno sounds like a bad punk-pop rip-off of a NIN song.

I mean neither come close to Green Day's earlier stuff but for the love of god, 21 Guns isn't creative at all...it's Green Day's play on the modern ballad. How is that genius?!

Not to mention, I went through all the punkish songs (except KYE and CI) and played the part around the verse/chorus and they all sound the same. Same beat, etc.

This is NOT a masterpiece. This does NOT measure up to their previous stuff. This IS Green Day's official cross into the mainstream world.

Okay, I'm good now. Had to get that off my chest. It's sad that after 8000 customer reviews on iTunes, the bloody thing has 4 and a half stars. >.>

At least there's always Protest The Hero!

Here's something different: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2gdbQpE ... re=related
This too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sM1Ahn0Osjo

I like both of these songs. Pretty much anything non-mainstream I listen to, though. Ska is good.

Green Day's official cross into the mainstream world? I thought Green Day were always mainstream.

Heheh, threads like this make me glad I'm tone deaf.

Nah, dude. I LOVED Nimrod and Insomniac.

King for a Day was the furthest thing from mainstream they ever did imo. That and well, they used to be straight up punk, distinguishable only by Billie Joe's unique vocals.
Now, now they're just mainstream.

AND YEAH MAN! Protest the Hero ftw!
and Enter Shikari
