Somebody, somewhere, thought this was a good idea.
Somebody, somewhere, thought this was a good idea.
Perhaps this is old news to all of you, but seriously, who the hell is responsible for this?
So... after watching that, did any of you experience sudden urges to go out and treat yourself to the featured product...?
Anyone...
No...?
Huh. Me neither. Funny that.
I just want to know exactly what substances are being smoked, injected, snorted or otherwise imbibed by the soulless denizens of Sony's promotions department. Then I want write myself a note, carved into my goddamn eyeballs, to never go within 3km of said substances or anyone who partakes in them.

Advertising isn't always about getting people to buy something. The video you linked into has been watched over 800 000 times, VOLUNTARILY, during the two years it's been up. That's over 800 people daily, on average, JUST on Youtube, and JUST this video. All that publicity was easily worth whatever Sony paied for these ads.
It's like the fantastic Compare the Meerkat ads: they joke about their brand name, the little factoids go past too fast for you to notice them... but the ads are funny, so people remember them, and when people remember the ad they also remember what it advertises. Simples!

People only watch that advert because it's farking creepy.
That, and it's been linked on TVtropes in the Nightmare fuel page, so of course it gets watched.
Also- Any publicity is NOT good publicity. All this advert shows is that people like looking at stupid ideas and that Sony made a hell of a stupid idea.

Re:
People buying or using the product is the end result. If advertising gets people talking about the product, the discussion may make them want to buy it. Publicity can be worth lots of money.Zhukov wrote:...Endoperez wrote:Advertising isn't always about getting people to buy something.
What?
There is bad publicity, but I don't think this ad is like that. It's a really weird ad, true, but it shows a perfectly normal PS3. Besides, it PlayStation was already a brand when PS3 came out. At the very least, people who knew/had PS1/PS2 seeing this ad would know that PS3 is released. That, alone, could be worth Sony's money. Remember, this ad was first showed around when PS3 was first released.People only watch that advert because it's farking creepy.

There's also the "what is this crazy thing" factor. People who know nothing about PS3 are definitely interested in hearing an explanation after seeing that ad.

Dear god I remember this. It gave me nightmares, nothing is creepier than evil baby dolls. Well spiders are scarier. I hate spiders.
That reminded me of this, has anyone else seen it and gone "Wtf is this ad for"
This is gatorade. GATORADE...

I've seen that commercial over and over again, but I kept thinking it was for some kind of rap group.

If anything this advert makes me think the PS3 will eat my soul.
