if Glastonbury was genuinely good for one thing, it was for getting people to be more conscious of economic, social and environmental problems. I've never been much on activism, I'm not a committed enough person, which I feel a bit shit about, but that's not to say that these organisations didn't teach me anything. They're run by some pretty committed people, and although I don't appreciate some of the self-serving people that join the causes just to feel the whole Holier-Than-Thou attitude towards others, there is some genuine good being done by the people. I can't count how many times I've been guilt-tripped by some charity asshole trying to guilt me into giving them money. I appreciate people getting recognition for their causes, but I don't appreciate people emotionally extorting people out of their money.
That being said, the following video had a great effect on me while I was at Glastonbury. It was played on the big screens between all the acts on the main stage. The song chosen was The Gadsdens - The Sailor Song, which was a particularly fantastic choice of song as it perfectly blends with the feel of the video and its imagery. They're an unsigned London band, so you should really check them out! I've fallen in love with the song.
If nothing else, these causes just make you more aware of what's going on in the world and encourage you to be more mindful of other people's problems. If you think you have issues then watch this...
