Anyone else like post-rock? Red Sparowes' whole 'Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Red Sun" album is amazing. I love the pedal steel in there. Also, Russian Circles' new album is great.

Despite her seeming inability to cope mentally with the pressures of suddenly being thrust into the limelight, when before this she was an old lady living in obscurity (with her cat), Susan Boyle is an amazingly talented singer. I really can't stress this enough.

At the risk of sounding painfully cheesy, this is an incredibly blatant message of rags-to-riches. Susan Boyle's story really demonstrates how anyone, actually anyone, can make an impact on the world. They just need their chance, and a bit of luck.

Regardless, she's note-perfect. Her speaking voice is such a difference from her singing voice...I know that is the case with most people, but you really don't fully understand the concept until you hear Susan Boyle talk, and then sing. I was awe struck the first time I heard her sing a note.

Lots of good songs. I love Modest Mouse, Mazzy Star, Mark Knopfler and The Pixies to an extent. That was not the song I would have chosen by Mazzy Star.

When I'm driving at night, I play that song over and over again. It's so serene. Puts you perfectly at ease.

Also, The National, who I'd never really listened to before, seem pretty awesome. I always expected they were going to be another band like Franz Ferdinand or something, I don't know why. Probably the name. Do you think the singer kind of sounds like a mix between Johnny Cash and Bruce Springsteen?

The National doest remind me a tad of Mr. Cash. As for "Into Dust"--I prefer it over "Fade Into You", but the latter is more of a crowd-pleaser. I only have So Tonight That I Might See...I need to get the other albums. Hope Sandoval is one of the only female singers I can tolerate.

We're agreed on that. Very seldom do I find a band with a female lead singer that I actually like. Although, for the definitive band of women kicking everyone else's ass, check out some Heart. The guitar intro is so orgasmic.

This is the only place in your post where my views differ from yours. The only thing albums I want will do to me is increase my total bytes downloaded, and possibly cause me to reach my ISP's download cap. I don't have the money to be buying all the music I crave, there's too much music and I always need a new fix!

I also often have this problem. Wearig eaphones or headphones for long periods often causes my ears to hurt, and when it happens sometimes I have to stop listening to my MP3 or whatever for a day. I hate having to take a break from being able to listen to music.

Also, lately I've been noticing that sometimes when I have my MP3 volume set too high my inner ears begin hurting. Never happened before.

Greymachine: a collaboration including Godfesh/Jesu(/Napalm Death)'s Justin Broadrick and Isis's Aaron Turner. It's fairly harsh at times, and a little hard to listen to, but quite interesting.
