Modern Warfare 2 petition

that is a petition for dedicated servers in the pc version of modern warfare two, it'd be awesome if everyone signed it, unless for some reason you think that there should be matchmaking. I'm really no good at getting these things signed you know.

Not to rain on your parade, but the game comes out in a month. Chances are it's either gone gold already or is really, really close to it. That means whatever's there is final. No changes. Not that the dev would listen to player petitions anyways. *shrugs*

yeah I know man, but I figure any effort to salvage a good game is a good effort.

Yes, but a late petition isn't a valiant effort. A rule of thumb for petitions is that if you're going to petition it, petition it when it'll make a difference.

Re: Modern Warfare 2 petition
Didn't the original CoD4 have options for dedicated servers in the PC version? Why wouldn't Warfare 2? Unless you mean servers hosted by the developers itself or something.

http://pc.ign.com/articles/103/1036859p1.html because they seem to think there are benefits to there being no dedicated servers.
Re: Modern Warfare 2 petition
I've signed the petition.
If MW2 comes without dedicated servers, I don't think I'll buy it.

Yeah, that's pretty embarrassing. Altough I've gotta admit I've played MW2 too... singleplayer only, didn't buy it.
I really hope IW will release a patch where they add at least all the features they removed compared to their previous games.

Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the universe trying to build bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

I just signed the petition didn't boycott it, got it for xbox though I would've preferred it for computer if they hadn't have gotten rid of the majority of the good computer features. tried it for computer though and hate iwnet in case anyone's wondering.
Re: Modern Warfare 2 petition
signed it after reading your post, even though I didn't understand a word of it and i don't even play CoD!

I'll explain it than, and life's alright.
if you've ever played a computer game online it most likely had a list of servers which you could choose from. won't go into details on that, suffice to say it works great imeo and allows a lot of freedom in customization these servers would be dedicated servers. however if you've played xbox or playstation what you've seen is an example of matchmaking, slightly laggier, difficult to mod, requires more money just over all not quite as good (except for the game maker who's rolling in more money by charging for content). What infinity ward did is rather than take the time to put dedicated servers in modern warfare 2 they just made a network called iwnet which is just matchmaking for the pc.

I've never had a problem with Matchmaking for either Halo 3 or Shadowrun, and I'm in Ireland. It's generally far more difficult to connect to games if you're from a country outside North America, since that's where most of the gamers which I play are.Count Roland wrote:I'll explain it than, and life's alright.

I really think you're making a mountain out of a molehill. Infinity Ward is an experienced enough team to know that they need a reliable service. Also, considering the game is already out and it already has this system in place, i doubt it's going to change for a few thousand signatures on some online petition. There's knowing when to kick up fuss and then there's knowing when it's really not going to make jack shit of a difference to anything. The latter would be useful for you in this case.
I don't mean to be crude, but if you don't like the game enough to use the online service, then just don't play it. They can't cater for every other person's whim. Maybe you're right and it would be better, but they're not going to change it.
Just get Dragon Age: Origins instead. It's a much better game.
