Well, I decided to try my hand at it. In turn, I've realized that if I want to do well at this, I need to make things twice as large as I originally intend them to be.

Blorx, you should really concider using the WoM client. (World of Minecraft)
It allows you to fly which is a great benefit when building tall objects such as these.
Using the WoM client definitely pulls down the construction-time to about 50%.

It's now called "Minecraft Classic", just below Minecraft Alpha (the one you have to buy to play)
