Open SourceMMORPG launches free official server!

That's right. Uru Live is back...and completely free!
But wait, there's more!
Soon, the game will go open source so that you can create your own worlds from the ground up, including custom models! All of the source tools will be included! The only thing that won't be included is the art assets.
I'm stoked. I wanna play again. Uru is one of the few MMOs I stuck to back in the GameTap days.
However, the servers got hammered and are getting fixed. Oh well!
Hope they get fixed tonight, heh.

Sounds incredibly cool, especially the free part. Except I'm on a Mac.
Re: Open SourceMMORPG launches free official server!
I actually have "Myst : Revelation" for the PC. However, it was a long time since I played it.
I tried reinstalling it a couple of weeks ago, but it appeared to be some problems with the disk, it made me very sadface.
I have never played Uru, but if it's in the same genre I might enjoy as much as I did with "Revelation". I'm going to try it out, thanks for the tip!

It is the same genre. It's just that Uru is a third-person game, as opposed to the traditional first-person Myst games. Don't worry, though. It easily retains all of the classic Myst charm.
The only thing is that with Uru Live, it's a cooperative online game, so in addition to the classic Myst gameplay with Uru's levels, there are regular content updates, as well as soon to be many, many player-made Ages, in addition to your personal Relto, and a lot of community rebuilding projects for D'ni.

THANK YOU. You, good sir, have just WON MY F***ING INTERNETS. I remember playing this game on my dad's computer, but I could never trace it down again, and now it's going open source.. Simply. Fucking. Awesome.

It is rather awesome. I'm excited to see what kind of crazy worlds come out of this.

Blargh, sadface. It looked so epic, and then it brought out that the only purpose of the game is to explore worlds. Not my cup of tea. The equation for Myst essentially seems to be Game - Gameplay = Myst :v
But hell, I'll definitely try it in case it turns out to be enjoyable- I don't want to write this off as a bad game when I haven't played it yet.

That's essentially my view of the Myst series. They look godawfully BORING. Oh my, I think I'd have a more enjoyable time by setting a colony of fireants off on my sugar-coated nutsack.Ragdollmaster wrote:Blargh, sadface. Myst is for the person that wants to explore everything. It's an adventure game. Some would say that it's a more in-depth hidden object game.

Lmfao. As much as I love the concept of Mortal, being a newb in that game is one of the worst experiences I ever had.Lord_of_Sausage wrote:Renegade_Turner wrote:That's essentially my view of the Myst series. But even in a vast, open-world adventure game, you have objectives. I don't know if I would call this an adventure game or a platformer because it fits neither genre. Adventure games are more along the lines of games like Drake's Fortune with platformers being more like Spyro or Crash Bandicoot.
Hell, if I wanted to gaze at pretty landscapes, I'd just go pop Oblivion into my PS3. The only difference is that after I've gazed at the pretty landscapes, I can go and slaughter a village of innocent people, or raid a bandit camp, or beat my horse, or assassinate an infidel, or go fight lions in the Arena, or steal stuff, or trade old equipment, or-
I digress. This isn't meant to be a post on Oblivion's open-ended gameplay
What I'm trying to say is, what's the point of Myst? What do I gain from downloading the game that I wouldn't gain from looking at a Terragen gallery? I understand that graphical immersion and ambiance is all very important with environments giving a game its unique 'feel'- I've felt it used properly in many a game, like Manhunt (wouldn't you get a little prickle of fear hiding behind garbage cans in an insane asylum while some big bouncer with an axe runs around screaming, "HONEY COME BACK I WON'T HURT YOU" in a disturbingly falsetto voice), Halo, and as mentioned before, Drake's Fortune and Oblivion.
tl;dr: Myst comprises the "video" of "video games", but there's no "game" in this... application. It's like EXTREME Windows Photo Gallery

Wow...Ragdollmaster, you are literally one of those people who has no idea what he's talking about.
Uncharted is an action game. Oblivion is a rather shallow action RPG. Myst is an adventure/puzzle.
If you want other examples of adventure games, look at R.H.E.M., Bad Milk, the Monkey Island series, the Sam and Max games, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Beneath a Steel Sky, etc. Those are true adventure games. Personally, I love the challenging puzzles of the games, often with little imposing a threat of death upon you. They're about observation and exploration. That's how true adventure games are.
But I digress, they're not for everyone. A lot more people would choose action over puzzles any day.

i concur, the majority i feel choose action. i cant count how many times i've heard people bash on puzzle games and then say "you want a real game?! PLAY MW2!!!"
different strokes for different folks.

Re: Open SourceMMORPG launches free official server!
Myst was probably one of the hardest games I played in my life ... the puzzles seemed to be so complex I had trouble solving them ...
The sad part is that it was obvious that there were things that had functions as if they were part of a puzzle but i had trouble putting it all together
Then again I was in elementary school when I played that game
