That's kind of what I wanted to know @Blorx; from your description, it just sounded like a game full of big worlds that you just walk around in. I can understand having fun playing a puzzle game full of big worlds you can walk in , but from your OP and the site's description it really just seemed like an 'exploration' thing

Hahaha he seems like he knows what he's on about. This next quote, for example, seemed particularly fitting:Blorx wrote:Wow...Ragdollmaster, you are literally one of those people who has no idea what he's talking about.![]()
Hahaha, I fucking excel at Windows Photo Gallery, I play that shit hard.Ragdollmaster wrote:tl;dr: Myst comprises the "video" of "video games", but there's no "game" in this... application. It's like EXTREME Windows Photo Gallery
What I can't wait for is Microsoft Excel 3. I can't wait to see what spreadsheet objectives the sequel has.
I've underlined the games which I have played in your post, all of which I thoroughly enjoyed, but the difference between those games and Myst is SHIT HAPPENS IN THEM. I can't remember which episode of Zero Punctuation addressed games in which SHIT DOESN'T FUCKING HAPPEN, but if I find it I will post it and have him provide my points in wittier language.Blorx wrote:If you want other examples of adventure games, look at R.H.E.M., Bad Milk, the Monkey Island series, the Sam and Max games, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Beneath a Steel Sky, etc. Those are true adventure games. Personally, I love the challenging puzzles of the games, often with little imposing a threat of death upon you. They're about observation and exploration. That's how true adventure games are.

Ah yeah, definitely a deeper purpose than just running around.

Well, some people probably love horse porn, but that doesn't fucking mean I should respect their decision. If I get wind of it, I'll still question their fucking sanity with questions like "Why would you subject yourself to that? It can hardly be enjoyable." Similar to my opinions on the Myst series.underthedeep wrote:i concur, the majority i feel choose action. i cant count how many times i've heard people bash on puzzle games and then say "you want a real game?! PLAY MW2!!!"Blorx wrote:
But I digress, they're not for everyone. A lot more people would choose action over puzzles any day.
different strokes for different folks.
Also, someone could love a game where you walk around a house watching paint dry, and you could say "Different strokes for different folks" but that's not a very good objective justification for playing it, now is it?

You're new, so I'd understand this to happen, but you have to learn to ignore Ren. He's like the forum troll on a more intelligent level.underthedeep wrote: then dont play it and stop your bitchin', sheeeesh.

dully noted, it wouldn't be a webforum without conflicting opinions.

Hahaha, she's a feisty one.underthedeep wrote:then dont play it and stop your bitchin', sheeeesh.
If you're going to defend games like the Myst series, you're going to have to accept my conjecture about them.
That's like saying to a person who's against child pornography "If you don't like it then don't watch it!" I'm standing up for the greater good here, and crusading against the child pornography-like entertainment which Myst encompasses. Hahaha.

Hahaha. A crafty manoeuvre, my friend. I'll be keeping an eye on you.
Re: Open SourceMMORPG launches free official server!
I played one Myst game. I found a puzzle. Figured out very fast that I had to do that later, wandered around, got lost in an outhouse, and gave up.
Pretty areas at least.
But this is a MMORPG that people can make stuff for. So I'm expecting some really crazy stuff.
