Daiur is exactly as assholish as I imagined and then some.

I am satisfied with this turn of events and anxious to see more.

And now, what that sentense woud've been had I said it normally.

I have the entire Prologue screen capped, but I didn't have time to Photoshop everything together, so for now I'll just jabber on about the characters.

Image
You know, in all truth, Paladin's are definitely one of the hardest characters to make decent stats for. They have to have a minimum Charisma of 17 and a minimum Wisdom of 13...I suppose I could see the whole Charisma thing, them being holy warriors of good and such, but game-wise they automatically get minor healing spells and it isn't affected by their Wisdom like Clerics. They aren't great at identifying unknown items (which is really the only reason you take a Bard in 2nd edition rules), which is what Wisdom is for...I probably could have dropped his Intelligence to 9, but I don't like making characters that get negatives to their rolls and stats, even if they aren't necessary. Which made it harder on me because I had to sit there and repeatedly roll Daiur's stats until I got high enough numbers that I could mess with. His Dexterity is high (16), but its still lower than 18. They also level slower than most warrior classes, however, if I can get him in some plate mail, he'll survive a lot longer.

Image
Fighters are easy to roll awesome stats for. Especially if they aren't the party leaders. Speaking of, making the Paladin the party leader is probably the best idea, because they automatically default to a high Charisma, which means we normally get good reactions from people when talking, which means we can crush their dreams by being complete assholes. I'm going to give him two-handed axes and hammers later (best for making enemies explode into tiny bits on criticals), but you can't get plate mail early on, so we'll have to lower his armor class using shields early on.

Image
This guy will be a good all-rounder, he can fight undead with his Mace, and he can still hack up enemies with his sword, he'll also get the bonus of being able to use shields, which means we can use him as a decent tank. Strength-wise for Fighters, you really want 18/00 (18 over 100), which is the best stat, but its rather rare to get 18/100 and get good workable stats in other areas.

Image
Because she can use both ranged and melee weapons, she can be a good backup tank, and once we get her in some decent armor (I'm hoping 13 Strength is enough to wear plate mail and carry other stuff around), she can wade into battle smashing stuff up and be a decent combat healer.

Image
His lust for animals will probably get him mauled someday, especially since he wears no armor because he's a mage as well as a thief. He's also limited to one quick-weapon slot, which means if I want him to backstab, I'm gonna have to manually switch his weapons through the inventory. I'll probably delegate him to being a permanent archer with defensive magics on the side. I did max out his Dexterity for his thief skills, and being a Gnome, he gets 19 Intelligence instead of 18, which means he can learn spells with an almost 100% guarantee.

Image
I know you wanted him to be able to use both quarter staves AND slings, but at level one, mages can only choose one weapon proficiency. So I chose slings, mostly because mages are really squishy (look at that HP) and they get focused on because they're throwing around the most damaging spells. Now, you may be wondering why I made him a Conjurer, instead of a regular jack-of-all-trades Mage. Specialist Mages can't use or learn spells from opposing schools, but they get one extra spell slot per level. Which potentially means one extra Fireball, Magic Missile, etc. I chose Conjurer, because Divination sucks (at least in IWD it sucks, in BG2, its ok...but you have Sorcerer's in BG2, which makes Mages...arguably...useless). There's really only one good spell that really gets any constant use, and that's Identify. Which is why I made Snarty a Illusionist/Thief. He's getting all the spells that we'll need that Quomoxl can't learn, he can steal shit, and he can cast things like Invisibility and so on.

Full actual LP update tomorrow.

Image There you go miss, your cellar is clea--

Image Money. Now.

Image Booze. Now.

Image Snarty, why are your pants covered in beetle ichor?

Image Oh...no reason.

Image
Image A great example of a perfect dwarven woman.

Image I'd hit that.

Image It looks like someone already has. With an Ugly Stick.

Image
Image I love shopping!

Image Dear, why are you so mean to everyone? I'm sure he's just having a rough day an--

Image Shut up, woman.

Image Just call him what he is Yane, and "asshole".

Image Oh, I could never call someone that, Daiur just has some...misplaced bad moods, yeah that's it. I mean, he's a Paladin, he could never be something as bad as an...a-s-s-h-o-l-e.

Image You ability to completely screw with things until it fits your mindset astounds me.

Image
Image My helmet is awesome.

If you're wondering why the Goblin corpses are in different places, its because our Illustrious Paladin died and I had to reload.

Image How dare you spread lies like that! I never die! Ever!

Image
Image Filthy child.

Image You said that already.

Image My judgement still stands.

Image
Image Why are you talking to a drunk?

Image It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Image There's booze! We must go buy booze!

Thorgon proceeds to buy Pomad out of his liqour supply.

More updates forthcoming, I'm headed out for a bit.

Yeah, this format definitely works better for RPGs, while the other format was better for that... whatever you call that kind of game.

Methinks I'll ignore this topic for awhile and then read it all in one huge chunk, thereby laughing much harder at the later ones.

Daiur is more assholish than I could've ever imagined.

I love it.

A lot of the beginning area is talking and more talking...and even more talking, or fetch quests. Mostly because level one D&D characters completely suck. Let's put it this way, a long sword can do 1D8 damage (That's one 8-sided die). If you look at the screen shots, I think the highest hp count right now is 19. So they try to go easy on you in the first town, with simple experience gaining quests that mostly involve talking and fetching people's shit. Or they throw really weak monsters at you.
...and we're back...let's see, where were we...Oh, right, looting every unlocked (and locked) chest, drawer, and pocket that we can find.
Image
Not only is this guy a dick, he doesn't carry anything nice.

Image
So we're gonna go "acquire" the belongings upstairs.

Image
We find a health potion...and what looks to be a piece of cheese. Not pictured, but I then sell everything I've laid my hands on back to the people that "gave" it to me.

Image
Image That isn't a furry rat, that's a squirrel, and its giving me a "come hither" look with those sexy eyes.

Image I don't understand why you don't go after children like you do animals. I mean they're both beastly little creatures.

Image Did you just ask him why he isn't a pedophile?

Image Natural progression of one's personal fetishes and all that.

Image
Image I could hear you all the way on the other side of town, you have a horrible singing voice!

Image It was...unique.

Image Shut up woman, and go shave your beard.

Image She isn't a dwarf.

Image All you midgets are the same.

Image
Image Why is it that we demand money from everyone?

Image I've got to find some way to keep my armor polished.

Image
Image Magic fingers.

Image
Image Once we're done here, I'll check the place for anything laying around that we could pawn off.

Image
Image Oh yeah, its still warm...

Image
Image What are you doing? Why are your pants down around your ankles?

Image I have no suitable explanation for that.

Image You were doing some Gnome ritual and praying for the dead wolf weren't you? Yeah, that has to be it. Of course you wouldn't be doing something nasty to the corpse, you're a nice Gnome. Everyone here is so nice.

Image Right, I'm going back outside now.

Image
Image What the hell took you so long? And what is that smell?

Image Its the smell of love! Gnome love for all animals!

Image I'm not sure if I should be disgusted or just smile and nod.

Image Shut up and move, I'm sure there are more saps out here who need our special brand of help.

Image But don't we need to tell the guy his shop is okay to go back into?

Image Onward to the next intolerable person!

Short update, but I'm still working on it, just been busy. There should be some real action in the next update.

And I return to finally, hopefully get somewhere. But probably not.
Image
Remember from the previous update, where we'd just talked to John-lennon-obrian-whatever.
Image Oh you poor dear, of course we can help you!

Image No, stop giving out help to people we don't know!

Image But you said earlier that you needed money to shine your armor.

Image We don't even know if she's going to give us anything!

Image
Image Why didn't we just take the sword?

Image Because it wasn't ours.

Image ...and I'd have to kill you.
Image
Image Jewelry...mine!

Image Isn't there something about holy people not wanting or needing worldly goods?

Image Screw that, I'm a Paladin, not a Monk. If I let any of you touch it, you'd ruin its value.

Image
Image Who's house is this?

Image Its that one guy who yapped at us in the beginning. Hrothgar or some-such.

Image Any why are we in his house?

Image To steal from it.

Image While he's staring at us?

Image
Image Better, now we can't see him.

Image See who? Where are we?

Image
Image Bah, this lock is stuck.

Image Step aside.

Image
Image And you call yourself a thief.

Image Shouldn't we be worried about making noise? We are stealing from someone in the next room over.

Image Shouldn't we stop them from...from...

Image Say it...saaay it...

Image From getting the nice mans goods for him?

Image Bah, whatever makes you sleep better at night.

Image I don't need to involve myself in the goings-on of lesser beings.

Image
Image Look, the nice man left us a note!

Image
ImageImageImageImageImage ...

Image
Image I really don't like doing work for lesser people, but I am a Paladin, and I must always help those worse off.

Image What's going on?

...and so off to an Inn we go to rest before setting off into the wilderness.
Image
Image What did he put in himself to make him like that?

Image What did you just say?

Image What did he put in himself to make him like that.

Image Learn to speak better.

Image

Image
Image I see an elf.

Image Great, more locals.

Image
Image People here are useless.

Image
Image Stupid...lock...won't...open...

Image Here, let me open it for you...

Image No wait...the elf is right next to...
Image
Image ...you.

Image
Image Hah, I got one open.

Image So you aren't entirely useless as a thief. Just most of the time.

...next time...Giant green men, wolves, and smashing things faces in!
