Work in progress: Isolation

Post by Blorx » Thu Apr 15, 2010 9:53 pm

I got severely inspired by the idea of isolation a while ago. However, I didn't know what I'd do to with the idea as an interactive fiction. Then I saw Pick Up the Phone and Aisle. I immediately knew that I wanted to adapt this style of play for it.

All information on it can be found here. I've also updated my "Games" page on my hub site to include it.

It's a work in progress, and I'll update you guys as I get on with it, but at least I finally have something out.

NOTE: You will need an interpreter. You can get one here.

Can you recommend one of the clients for Windows?

Inform • Z-Machine • Interpreters → Windows

Frotz 2002 is popular and supports the blorb format, so I'd go with that one. Sorry, didn't take the time to run through it all. Just kinda slapped the link up there.

Aight, thanks man ^^

Just post your opinions on what's there and I'll increment the amount of content every day or so.

It's an experiment in a few game design decisions, mostly. The average session is supposed to last about 10 seconds, with over 100 endings possible, at least. As stated in the blog, I've had a few places that the inspiration came from.

Once I'm done with it, you should be able to try a bunch of crazy things and see what works and what doesn't.

There's now a link to play the game in your browser if anyone wants to try it out. No added endings yet, still only 10. I was working on getting the web player working and someone gave me an alternative.

I'm trying to figure out a way to get it to work on the actual page, rather than just linking to the story, but as of yet, I don't know how to do that.

EDIT: Apparently using the "restart" command at the end of the game causes the entire screen to go blank. In effect, you'll have to reload the browser window each time until I find a workaround. *sigh*
