"Don't say another goddamn word. Up until now, I've been polite. If you say anything else--word one--I will kill myself. And when my tainted spirit finds its destination, I will topple the master of that dark place. From my black throne, I will lash together a machine of bone and blood, and fueled by my hatred for you this fear engine will bore a hole between this world and that one. When it begins you will hear the sound of children screaming--as though from a great distance. A smoking orb of nothing will grow above your bed, and from it will emerge a thousand starving crows. As I slip through the widening maw in my new form, you will catch only a glimpse of my radiance before you are incinerated. Then, as tears of bubbling pitch stream down my face, my dark work will begin. I will open one of my six mouths, and I will sing the song that ends the Earth."

"If you love something set it free, if it comes back to you its yours, if it doesn't, hunt it down and kill it." - I don't remember. A bumber sticker I think.

“Go back to bed, America, your government has figured out how it all transpired. Go back to bed America, your government is in control. Here, here's American Gladiators. Watch this, shut up, go back to bed America, here is American Gladiators, here is 56 channels of it! Watch these pituitary retards bang their fucking skulls together and congratulate you on the living in the land of freedom. Here you go America - you are free to do what we tell you! You are free to do what we tell you!”

Absolutely love this.

The only thing I approve of there is Andrew Ryan. The MGS ones are particularly cringe-worthy.

You have to have the proper context to understand the significance of the two quotes from MGS4, and I suppose I can see why Psycho Mantis' isn't exactly amazing (though I personally liked it), but seriously? You find Gray Fox's final words cringe-worthy? That's probably my favorite quote out of the entire series.

To be honest it sounds like standard cut-and-paste dialogue from a generic war film...I believe half of all forms of artistic media about war has touched on the concept which that quote respresents at some stage.

Now THOSE are quotes. They're memorable, and witty. I've no idea what Tracer Bullet is, though.

Tracer Bullet is from the Bill Waterson comic "Calvin and Hobbes." Sometimes Calvin pretends that he is a private detective named Tracer Bullet. Great comic strip.

My friend told me that Calvin & Hobbes made a Gurren Lagann reference in one comic...that's pretty out there as far as popular comics go.

Fair enough. You have to at least admit that few war films would present that concept with such a dramatic flair. That's what made the quote memorable to me- the context and the character, not the words themselves.

I don't have to at least admit that. I think Metal Gear Solid's melodrama was one of the things I could have done without, although at this stage it's almost as much a staple of the series as comically bad voice acting is a staple of the Resident Evil series.
Neither the words, nor the manner in which they're spoken, will do anything for me.

Your friend got his dates wrong.
Calvin & Hobbes:
Syndicated: 1985 - 1995
Gurren Lagaan:
Original Run: 2007 season
Could he have meant that Gurren Lagaan made a Calvin & Hobbes reference?
