AVG is fine, but it wouldn't hurt to "upgrade" to Avira AntiVir. Also, if you don't mind the small amount of memory they take up, I'd also recommend installing Trend Micro for your internet browsing needs (which is probably not necessary for the wiser, more experienced web surfers, but it's not a bad idea to have it as a precaution), as well as WinPatrol, which will actively guard your hard drive and also check all of the programs that automatically launch when you start your computer, preventing those resilient viruses that always seem to instantly activate from screwing up your day.

tldr -> For megasafety go with AVG/AntiVir supplemented with Trend Micro and WinPatrol. If you're looking to just modify what you have, AVG is fine, but Avira is a little better.

We're running AVG free on my laptop, and we have a 7 year licence on the paid version for the family PC, and other than problems with the hardware (In the PC that is) we haven't had any problems. *Touch wood!* I was under the impression that the paid version of AVG has most of the aforemtentioned components, so, if you want an antivirus, i would say go for that, although, I've never used any of the others, so I couldn't comment on them.

I use a combination of microsoft security essentials and AVG gaming protection.

I have been using the AVG for ages but I have encountered many issues. Most of the time, it detects false positive detection. So, I decided to use another antivirus which was suggested by one of my officemates which is lightweight and very efficient in detecting viruses and malwares.

I currently use Comodo antivirus because it came with comodo firewall and I'm too ing lazy to bother with a different one. Haven't had any viruses, only ever had one anyway with any antivirus.

You may also look into Threatfire as an "in addition to Antivirus" security program. Look it up, I'm not going to type it out.

I use a combination of the windows firewall, Avast!, Super Anti Spyware, and Malwarebytes. I haven't had any sort of virus since I started with Malwarebytes, so I would probably have to say go with that. It's free.

I use Avira, used it since I got this computer (~1.5 years) and ive never gotten a virus.

You dont only need a good anti virus, you gotta be smart and cautious on the internet and not do anything stupid.

what anti virus do i use? that really depends,
for my main desktop, i use ubuntu linux
for my virtual XP i use clamAV (free, small, and simple, but not recommended, i use it just to help root out a virus that i found already)

for my laptop running XP, I actually don't use a anti-virus, i have it image every 6 hours to my data server, kinda like a snapshot in virtualbox, letting me revert to old versions if i need to. (and if i do anything where i might worry, i make a backup then and there)

for my "break me" computer, (which oddly enough is broken again, i wonder why its named that?) i used avira when it runs XP, AVG when it runs windows vista, and avast when it runs windows 7.

from my experience with the many was of defence, I would recommend avira, small simple easy to turn off for when you need it to stop hogging your CPU/HDD, and very rarely has "hey look at me! im doing something!" alerts. (unless it stopped something, i tend to want to know if that happens)
