Its more of a plea to implement sigs rather than a "its futile to not have them" post ...

:P
I understand where Shunsninja13 is coming from, it's not gonna happen like that though. "I will disregard your culture and try to enforce something I like with brute force although I am a complete newbie around here" rarely worked for anyone.

However, this is a discussion forum, so make compelling arguments, maybe you're turning the bigwigs around!

It's visual clutter. It doesn't add anything substancial to your posts. It's redundant. It's been tried and deemed unacceptable.

You basically have a lot of arguments to debunk. Bandwidth is the least of concerns, I think. Edit: Particularly because sigs are cached.

I personally like signatures, I think of them as a expansion of your avatar, they make posts easy to identify without having to look at the name ...

the name's right above the post though, signatures just clutter everything up.

That's assuming I don't know you as "penguin avatar guy" that lives in alaska and has a creepy looking blue eyed dog and not by your name ...

Some people are just better with associating memories with faces, images, etc and horrible at associating memories with names ...

With an image, i can easily associate conversations ive had with that person from the past or things that person has said, but with just a name it becomes harder for me to recall conversations or posts of them from the past.

I just find it faster to recognize people by their avatars than by their names ... even grayswandir who changes his all the time (given there is a definite pattern to his choice in avatars) ...

Anyone without an avatar is just part of some monotonous crowd to me that gets jumbled up in details ... Even right now I can barely come up with some names of people without avatars and even less about the details they may have said in previous posts ...

Its just that instead of posting a compelling argument you pretty much voiced your opinion as fact and then declared that this topic was now pointless to further discussion ...

It's pretty arrogant to say the least :P

Why do you think signatures are overrated? Why do you disapprove of them?

The ability to explain opinions cautiously has more potential to persuade than an opinion stated as absolute fact.

I pretty much summed up the opinions of both myself, and the rest of the people that decided to shut off the signature-function in the first place, including atleast some of the administrators of this very board.

Actually no dog for me, had a couple cats and some fish but they're dead now as they'd been around for a while, besides that pets are a lot of work for very little return.
