The Killzone 3 Singleplayer demo is now out on PlayStation Store. Played through it and I love it. There's a co-op version of the campaign, too. Graphics are beautiful. Weapons feel Killzone-y; you have your standard assault rifles and pistols in there, but you'll also get to use some nice shiny stuff, including a minigun and a micro rocket launcher which holds 9 rockets that can be fired in bursts of three or all at once. The cover system is amazing- getting into and out of cover feels very natural, and its easy to get used to. Definitely recommend this for anyone who can download it.

Played for about an hour on a friend's PS3. Can't remember what the level was called. It was an overgrown city.

Anyway, it was pretty generic stuff. Basically the same as every other current-gen FPS. Dudes shoot at you then you shoot them then you throw a grenade then you skip the painfully corny cutscene then you wish you could skip the painfully bad dialogue and so on and so forth.

Oh, and my friend tells me she finished the campaign in five and a half hours.

On the upside, it's a very pretty game. But not something I would ever pay money for.

So, its basically the "Halo" of the PS3.

On the other hand you could say this about almost every shooter there is.

What exactly would you expect in an FPS, gameplay-wise? The point is it's polished and well-done. The melee system is not boring 'hurp-de-derp I will knife you in the foot and instantly kill you', the cover system doesn't feel like you're being superglued to the wall, the movement is fluid and realistic, the graphics and sound are very well done- I honestly don't see what's bad about any of it.

The cutscenes and dialogue from what I've seen are also pretty good. Not exactly top-notch, but not embarrassingly bad (hello Black Ops campaign).

Insofar as "futuristic shooter where you play as the underdog", yeah. 'cept the Helghast aren't predatory aliens, more like totalitarian douchebags. Story's also a little more polished, in my opinion. Still, that's a pretty accurate comparison.

I meant that its probably the best selling, exclusive, FPS on the PS3.

Yes. You could. That's exactly my point. When I describe KZ3 it feels like I am describing almost every shooter ever made.

"Generic" - adjective
- of, applicable to, or referring to all the members of a genus, class, group, or kind; general.

I try.

Fair enough.

However, I would argue that when your product is damn near indistinguishable from everything else on the market, your execution needs to be exceptional, not just "well done". Otherwise you're just another face in the crowd. And the crowd already has pretty low standards.

It also has a disturbing habit of not protecting you. After a few minutes I stopped using it because the space nazis could still shoot my face off when I was fully in cover. Apparently Rico doesn't know that he should put his head behind cover along with the rest of him.

Oh, it was definately better then Black Ops. I'll give it that. Mostly because it isn't trying too hard to make me take the story seriously.

The FPS genre itself needs a bit of fresh meat or a boot in the ass. Although, there's only so much you can do with shoot evil baddies in the weak points with big guns and saving the world.
While I won't say its perfect, I do like where Bulletstorm went. Now, yes, its pretty much just a glorified environmental hazards game, the "Trick shots" add something fun to the game. I have yet to see a FPS that rewards you for kicking a guy into the air, jamming a spear up his butt, lighting him on fire, wrapping a grenade around his neck, and then kicking him into a group of his buds and blowing him up.
