The only logical explanation would be that MacOS X is 6x+ as fast as Windows... *ahem*zip wrote:I find it interesting that the Powerbook G4 was (according to Apple) much faster than a PC processor of the same clock speed, and yet Apple's new Intel powered 'MacBook' is '4x as fast' as the Powerbook G4.

That's 'cause the Macintels aren't using P4szip wrote:I find it interesting that the Powerbook G4 was (according to Apple) much faster than a PC processor of the same clock speed, and yet Apple's new Intel powered 'MacBook' is '4x as fast' as the Powerbook G4.
Duo > G4 > P4
In other words, Apple compared the G4 to the Pentium 4. The G4 clocks slower than the P4, but processes more information per cycle. Lately, processor manufactureres have realized that clock speed isn't eveything. The Duo seems a good example of that; along with the fact that Intel's clock speed has been sitting around 3GHz for quite some time now (I think...?)
No doubt, by the way, that Apple (et. al.) did (and does) do whatever they could to exaggerate benchmarks, but the fact remains that the G4 processor performs better than a comparably clocked P4 processor. I've got an 800Mhz G4 iMac at home (I'm off at school now, with a G5 ) and there's no way an 800Mhz P4 could handle the stuff that G4 does.

A G4 does outperform a P4 of the same clock speed, but since P4s clock 3x higher than G4s and cost less, the point is somewhat moot.GreenAlge wrote: No doubt, by the way, that Apple (et. al.) did (and does) do whatever they could to exaggerate benchmarks, but the fact remains that the G4 processor performs better than a comparably clocked P4 processor.
