Alpha 8 Links!

Post by Jeff » Tue Jan 06, 2009 2:39 am

The Alpha 8 leaked build is here! A "leaked build" is when John and I literally grab the latest SVN build and package it up for you guys. It is not condoned by David, Phillip, and Aubrey, but we want to keep you guys in the loop and give you stuff to play with regularly!

There are some rumors about a blessed build coming in the next couple of weeks.

New in this version: blog post coming soon

P.S. be sure to delete your shadow caches! Just delete the whole Program Files/Wolfire Games/Overgrowth directory and you should be fine.
ahruman wrote:For Mac OS X, the cache lives at ~/Library/Application Support/Lugaru 2/Data/.
Also, press P to toggle wireframe stuff.

Uploading now.
Windows: http://cdn.wolfire.com/alpha/a8-win.msi
Mac OS X: http://cdn.wolfire.com/alpha/a8-mac.zip (warning: does not work right now)

Unfortunately I had some trouble with the PPC again this week -- Chrome does not work on PPC right now, which is ok because we can just disable it, but I did not have time to figure out how to conditionally exclude it in Xcode, so hopefully next week!

A Linux build is currently being worked on by Ryan Gordon -- it will be coming soon (?). Sorry for the delay. :<

It looks like I forgot to include some CoreFoundation stuff in this build... Will try again next week, or sooner if I have time. Maybe someone at MacWorld can help me. :)

Hey, just a quickie; if you have problems with Xcode, I'd be glad to help, been using it for many years and written a few games in it.

A8 consistently crashes on startup (iMac Core 2 Duo, OS X 10.5.6, old cache removed).

The crash is triggered on thread 6 in Engine::LoadLevel(), when GOMP_parallel_start+17 (part of gcc’s OpenMP implementation) jumps to 0xFFFFFFFF (presumably a bogus function pointer). Generally, this leads to an abort() on thread 6. In some cases, it instead leads to a crash on thread 0 because SDL tears down the OpenGL context from thread 6 while thread 0 is issuing OpenGL calls. This appears to be a serious flaw in SDL’s error recovery – it shouldn’t be attempting a full teardown on a secondary thread. In point of fact, it probably shouldn’t be doing it at all.

That would be awesome. :) I am not too proud to admit I don't know what I'm doing in Xcode (or in a lot of other areas, for that matter).

I could probably help too - I'm not an expert with XCode, but I know quite a bit. I package Wesnoth and Frogatto for Mac (plus my own stuff). I'm crimson_penguin on IRC.

I'm currently downloading the build.

EDIT: Downloaded, and of course, it crashes for me too. If it helps anything, here's the output before it crashes: http://codepad.org/MqArQIoS

On all of the windows computers i've used, none of them work. When I open it, it says: Application failed to start, because application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling it may fix this problem.
Am I doing something wrong? I downloaded it three times.

Install the C++ sp1 runtime and try again.
