Seconded.
An alternative place to download the bulk of the menu would be awesome.

Putting an auto-downloader for the main menu mod is a good idea as well.

Unfortunately this is inherently troublesome due to how the menu mod is set up. The good news is that once the rest of the SUM OG Utilities are ready, there will be no need for it
On a side note, I may have found the source of the "freezing download" problem. Once I can get a couple of people to test it, I should be able to release a fix!

Can you please make a version that doesn't require java to run it?
Java was working fine some time ago, but when I installed 64 bit java on my computer, a lot of programs insisted that I was using 32 bit. I tried to uninstall java but I got an error saying I was missing a .dll file required to finish the installation. I tried to re-install java over and over again, but I always get that stupid error. So, would you please be kind and port the launcher over to a different scripting language than java, please?

Unfortunately I don't think we're planning on switching from Java any time soon. It would require a complete re-write, and would make cross-platform compatibility much more difficult. For the time being it's simply the best choice for this project.
You may want to back up your data and do a clean Install of your OS at some point. Also I'm sure people on various Java forums could help you out to install it correctly.

SUMLauncher Alpha 1.6 is now available:
Code: Select all
• Revised download algorithm.
• Additional bugfixes.
• WARNING: The next update to the SUMLauncher (1.7) will require a total reinstall (of the SUMLauncher). Visit the forum page for details.

Please check out the big warning we've added at the top of the opening post concerning the next update (1.7) which should be out within a week or two.
Please also let us know if you have any questions about it.

Why is this update so special? Is something cool happening?

Okay, I give up trying myself. When I fill in my preorder key (the latest part without the "/" then it says invalid key) it's stuck on authenticating. Is this normal?
Edit: The thread icon is bugging, it's still blue. Nobody can see there is a new post :s.
Also If I run the launcher again, I get 2 forms. The one which says 'Authenticating ...' and the one where I have to fill in my key. If I close the second form the application crashses and I get this error log.
SUMLauncher version 1.6 Alpha (build 7)
2012-02-06 17:38:38.292
java.lang.NullPointerException
at com.antonriehl.ogmods.Launcher.checkKey(Launcher.java:435)
at com.antonriehl.ogmods.Launcher.<init>(Launcher.java:113)
at com.antonriehl.ogmods.SUMOGUtilities.main(SUMOGUtilities.java:32)
Any ideas?

Are there any other error messages, or does it say anything else in that error?
You can also use the full url to your spf page, give that a shot:
Code: Select all

Just edited an error log in my previous post, with the full key it's the same.
If I fill in a wrong key, it's immediately says invalid key but when I fill in the right key it's just stuck at 'authenticating'.

My guess would be that something is blocking the SUMLauncher from connecting to the authentication server (typing in a "wrong key" that has any sort of invalid character for a url could cause it to immediately say the key is invalid, even if it couldn't contact the server).
Check to make sure no antivirus programs/firewalls are blocking the SUMLauncher. If you're using AVG, try turning off email protection, as it has given us issues in the past.

I'm using AVG in fact, gonna try it now.
Edit: Turned of AVG email protection and tried to run as administrator. Didn't work, gonna try firewall later. I just want to test the new features now, waited so long.
