It kinda says it in the error message doesn't it? Either get a graphics card that supports shader model 3.0 (all cards since like 2004 should have this), or wait until they support previous versions, though I wouldn't hold my breath for that.

Well, i5 or ram is not important for this message. It's your graphic card. Is it updated?

You seem to avoid providing the one information that is required for a proper diagnosis.

WHAT graphics card do you have?

ATI/NVidia/Intel/Other <model> ?

Hm, there are many cards in that series.
I guess you have windows 7? If so, open your start menu by pressing on the windows icon on the bottom left corner of your screen.
Then type "dxdiag" in the text field on the bottom of this menu. Check the second tab of the window that opens up. Should be something like "display" (sorry, my PC is not in English). There you can find the name of your card. You can either tell us, or try to google this name in order to find out whether or not your card supports shader 3.0.

If you have Windows XP, you open the same menu and then open "Run". There you type in the same thing, "dxdiag".

Yeah... I don't think you have a graphics card. You might have an onboard graphics, which is not enough to run... well anything more than solitaire or pinball.

A friend of mine wants to play amnesia, he had a similar card (Intel HD graphics), but I looked in his pc and he had no card.

Sorry bro :(
Also try Speccy, its a free software that will let you see the specs of your pc.

Do you know whether or not you have switchable graphics cards? I know I had the same problem back when I first started pc gaming, you have to manually switch from power-saving to high performance in the case of an Intel and Radeon GPU. It's the whole dynamic vs static graphics that gets people. If that doesn't help, try to figure out what your pc's specs are and post them here. This is for Windows, not sure how to do Linux or Mac:

Windows key
Control panel
System and security
Click system in green
Click device manager in top left
Double Click Display Adapters and tell me what you see

The wiki lists few cards with similar numbers as working. The final FPS also depends on your processor, but the graphics card seems like it should be able to run the game.

ATI Radeon HD 5770 (1GB) Working Desktop Windows 7 x64 144 joepsz Diddy500

AMD Radeon HD 6750M (512 mb) Working Mobile (Macbook Pro Late 2011) Mac OS X 10.7.3 163 / 164 hcts 100-150 Fps in most levels with 720p. 40-50 Fps in "Patchy Highlands". No crashes as of yet.

So, since your better card should be able to run it, then the question becomes how to make your PC use the better card for Overgrowth. BotheredMe seems to have gone through this before, so perhaps he can help?

For now, try right-clicking on Overgrowth executable or shortcut. Do you get an option to choose which graphics card to use?
