So, just to be clear the devs are more than likely going to make their own lore and history and not leave it to fannon? I would prefer a Dev standard, than a mismatch of community ideas.

It is 100% certain that the story will be written by the Wolfire team.
Aubrey said it himself that for him the comic was a way to train that stuff.

If the comic story is you people's idea of "standard," then I guess it's nice to have such critical alpha testers, but personally, I'd be overjoyed to see something on par with that in the game.

I would really love to see a great amount of worldbuilding in this game's lore. Love seeing different races interact with each other.
