PS3 Controller axis

Ive set the axis under SUMluancher to axis1 and axis2 for movement, but it recognizes it as the d-pad instead of the left thumbstick. Ive changed it to all sorts of different axis' and it still wont read the sticks. The controller works fine, so im not sure if im doing something wrong. Ive looked across the forums, but couldnt find anything on it. I appreciate any help on the subject
