Alpha 3 Links!

Post by Jeff » Mon Dec 01, 2008 9:33 pm

The leaked Alpha 3 build is here! As discussed earlier, a "leaked build" is when John and I literally grab the latest SVN build and package it up for you guys. It is not necessarily condoned by David, Phillip, and Aubrey, but we want to keep you guys in the loop and give you stuff to play with regularly!

I'm uploading the builds now, and you will be able to get them here:

Windows: http://cdn.wolfire.com/alpha/a3-win.msi
Mac OS X: http://cdn.wolfire.com/alpha/a3-mac.zip

Changelog: Subscribe to the dev blog :)

PPC and Linux builds are currently being worked on by Ryan Gordon -- they will be coming soon (?). Sorry for the delay. :<

Upon clicking on the Mac OS X link:

"This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below."

hmm...

Oh my, the filesizes are becoming bigger. As are the loading times. Fun. Will we have to build the shadows ourselves for all of the maps when the game comes out? It's a pretty lengthy process.

One thing I've noticed is how much the framerate drops when going up close to the tree. From my typical ~240 fps it dropped down to under 30 when viewing the tree from up close.

To anyone downloading and wondering what to look forward to, here's a screenshot:

Also, I did not realize that programming for Linux was so complicated. Is everything going okay?

Ryan just released an updated Prey demo a few days ago, so I doubt it's the "hard to program" part but more like "too busy with other stuff".

Yeah, the shadows took a while to load. And I also get a framerate drop when I get close to the tree.
Anyway, I like the desert environment! Lookin' good!

the light in the desert is looking kinda blue. if that is generic daylight, it should be warmer, yellows and oranges.

I disagree. The sky in the desert is still blue.

The sky turns yellow like that at sunset and stuff... did you mean fog and not the sky?

Maybe he thinks that the sand is too pale and dark. The sun doesn't appear to be in the game yet, which might be the yellowy part of the sky that he was talking about?

I'd still like to know is this kind of desert going to be like western or eastern?
