Mod manager?

I think a mod manager is a important feature. a little manager to automatically download and implement mods. maybe with an update-alert and rating-system

Is there anything planned like this?

This thread (especially the posts from Jeff) could be interesting for you. Something like you suggest definitely was planned and I see no reason why they should have dropped this. I think I even saw a blog post about an initial user interface for it, but I can't seem to find it. There also is an updater (for the alpha) that was requested several times now and is currently in the works (although with low priority as it seems).
