Unofficial alpha 104, weekly build

Post by Jeff » Tue Nov 09, 2010 2:33 am

The unofficial, alpha 104 leaked build is here!

A "leaked build" is when John and I grab the latest SVN build and package it up for you guys. It has a ton of known bugs, so don't worry if it doesn't work for you. It is not condoned by David and Aubrey but we want to keep you guys in the loop and give you stuff to play with regularly! Please report bugs in our Trac system! Also, when you find a bug, please ping John as well.

*NOTE* Please remember that these are unofficial alphas and they do not represent a finished product. They are not even polished builds, just straight up raw development dumps not intended for public consumption.

New in this version: (see blog)

To download the alpha, use one of these links (please use the mirrors!)

Win (exe): slow original fast US mirror 1 fast EU mirror 1
MD5 = cfc5dfb36e185a463cd3da36427a158c

Mac: slow original fast US mirror 1 fast EU mirror 1
MD5 = 6aaa15d6194722368d5d08ca8ce671bc

Please use the speedy mirrors, they are graciously provided by Mow of FoCo Gaming and should provide much faster download speeds. They will also save us a lot of money. :D We now have a set of US mirrors graciously provided by Woet of FFS Network.

Subscribe to the dev blog!

Please remember to uninstall the old version first and let us know how it works!

Note! No PPC, 10.4 Tiger, or Linux support at the moment -- we are waiting on Awesomium for these. AJS says that Linux support is on the horizon, but we cannot make any concrete estimates for it. In the meantime, we are working with the creator of Berkelium to switch to that, which has a Linux build, so we are no longer dependent on Awesomium.

Dammit! Now I have to download a whole new alpha just to test out the blocking. :mrgreen:

Great work, guys. Love the new video alphas.

(I love the blood particle effect, by the way)

Wow this is really taking shape now. I should be working on a translation :wink: , but somehow I get drawn back to alpha 104 to kick some serious bunny ass, the blocks look spectacular!

Tons of fun! It's feeling quite polished as it is right now, and just messing around is a lot of fun. However I wonder if there's possibly a way to get multiple opponents to see how it goes?
Quite happy that you guys arranged the Organic Indie Preorder Bundle, Overgrowth is really shaping up!

And just to state the obvious the cannonball-kick can't be blocked or stopped so it's kind of an overpowering tactic at this point. I'm sure it can be guarded but the NPC didn't really seem to do it so. Something like grabbing a hold of the foot and drag him down, then give a well-placed kick, or simply blocking and then levering the opponent away should make it less powerful.

Some more development on the "working directory" error, I've emailed you with the details.

Thanks for the help debugging the config.txt error -- it looks like if Garry's Mod or certain Steam things are installed, Overgrowth's working directory is hijacked to be the Steam working directory... I have no idea why that would happen, but now we have a really good lead for that bug.

This video preview of alpha 104 finally got me to crack open my wallet and preorder. I've been following your blog for a while and really appreciate the community you're building here. Best of luck on the game!

Press 'x'.

An early health system has been implemented. If you take too much damage, you "die", and the same goes for the AI rabbit. 'X' respaws both you and the AI rabbit.

So... it's normal for all the particles to collour purple, right?

And that I still can't go fullscreen?

Have you edited your config.txt file to enable fullscreen?
