Anyone working on a Super Smash Bros mod?

I figured it was only a matter of time, especially with the new vs mode.

I just wanted to check before starting on it myself.

Hell yeah, it would. But you'd have to lock the characters to a 2d plane, moving only left and right. And that may be difficult to pull off especially with ragdoll physics in play. Well, the movement would surely be easier than constricting the physics. Maybe just disable ragdoll physics entirely and replace it with animations?

Nah. Check aschar.as for David's forcefield code. Reuse that in, just set it up to work in the 2D plane. On a different method, tell the game that the forward key is actually jump and that the back key is crouch. That would achieve the exact control configuration. I believe that should be possible without dorking with config.txt Just change how each input is handled in aschar.as

Also making a fixed camera might help

Yeah, that would do well in conjunction with reworked controls. I feel like with the same control handling, but a fixed camera, it could get some odd camera twitching.

And then we would of course also need support for up to 4 players, where these players can select freely between keyboards and gamepads.

Since you won't need to control the camera, you can get away with using only the keyboard, so no mouse is needed. And since you don't need a mouse it would be possible to have several people on one or more keyboards.

It would be possible to at least hard code in controls to allow for more than two people, right?

Someone should get on this! :D

Yeah, it is. It should be, anyway.
