HoppzBrkly's Custom Challenge Map

Post by HoppzBrkly » Sun Jan 08, 2012 11:17 pm

After doing some light modding for Overgrowth I made my own challenge map. It is currently a work in progress, but the level can be beaten. Once I get some good feedback and guidance I plan on having a speed run competition with prizes such as Skyrim, MW3, Battlefield 3, etc.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I just played it a bit, didn't get through it, but I did find some exploits, I'll make a video for you when I get home.

Adding this to my menu mod. Hope that's cool. :) Will update when you do!

So far, I haven't beaten it yet, but I like the way it's going so far. Definitely some interesting aspects to the level!

I do have a very small comment for you... when taking pictures of your level, you can turn off the hotspot and decal editors so that you don't see the selection boxes while getting the perfect picture. To do that, click on the "Edit" tab in the ribbon, then un-select the buttons (they are on the right).

Oh, also, thanks for using the custom folder for your objects... it makes this much easier to install.

Already done. :)

EDIT: Should also mention that changing which editors are active can be useful, especially when trying to adjust decals!

This map looks fun. I believe I'll try. Time to totally show off my fail parkour skills.
Also, I'm in love with your profile picture. Freakin' in love.

It would be great to see a video of you trying.

Thanks! Just think of your failures as our happy little accidents. :)

When I'm not "working" I plan on making a video of this level too... Unfortunately, I already figured out some of the spots... but those little pyramids are driving me nuts... :p

Video made, I found four potential exploits.

Feedback time:
That pyramid platform is a huge annoyance. So are the small platforms right after the pyramid. You might also want to have a few fewer rabbits at the end, because in my opinion it's hard enough as it is without a hard battle at the end.

This feedback is all for things that can make the level easier, so if you want your level to be very hard then you should totally leave it as is as all of these things can be overcome by practice.

It's a cool level, I'm yet to finish it in one go though! I'll wait with recording a playthrough video until you feel like you're done with the level.

Thank you for taking the time to make the video. I was planning on making the level easier because I want to run a speed run contest, and that would be hard if the level is too hard to beat. I just recently found a video explaining how to do the wall jumping in Overgrowth and I want to incorporate that into my map so it will probably change dramatically.

Very nice map indeed, that you didn't know how to wall jump properly may have played a role in the unique style of parkour. While wall jumping parkours are fun, your jump and grab parkour is also much fun and certainly not easier :o. Overall very nice map, looking forward to the speedruns. :D
