Receiver Experience/Problem

Post by Ayamako » Wed Jun 27, 2012 4:32 pm

I really like the concept of Receiver,
the whole weapon handling,
that there are just two types of enemies
and the high difficulty.

BUT...

Most of my deaths are brought to me via "LAGs"
which are caused by the game (everything else closed and high priority for the game)
[and the drones sometimes wont die from a whole magazine of hits xD]

My personal best is 4 tapes so far :D

My most important specs are:

Intel iCore i3 540 @ 3.2 GHz
2x 4GB Corsair DDR3 1600MHz
ATI/AMD XFX 5770HD 1GB @ 850MHz
(jumps to 86°C kinda instantly!! running 1080p@simple/good)

I still love the game but it really bugs me out in these perfomance peaks
when it lags in the moment where a turret or drone detects me
and stops me from hiding for 1-2 seconds. (these "I´m a goner" moments)

Is this caused by the engine or is there any trick to improve that?
I even had the Source-Engine in mind as alternative...
(hope that doesn´t sound rude)

Whoever cares:
Please add your own experience/problems/highest tape-score behind :D

greets from Germany ^^

So far the problems are:

engine related:
- engine is very resource hungry/unoptimized
- enemies going into sleep mode at some distance which is too close
- loading hiccup when entering rooms

asset related:
- problematic assets, usually stairs (getting stuck, cannot climb, death by downward acceleration)
- ugly bathrooms :D (my personal opinion, I hate having to check them out, and sink is too high)

gameplay related:
- lights are irrelevant (you can shoot the lights but you don't have the reason to do so)

and biggest problem is that the game won't get developer's full attention since they're busy doing OG :( there's a mountain of potential beneath this game, let's hope it's gonna get some more dev time.

I'd like to suggest, to keep the game fresh maybe devs should allow that other people create room assets which can later be included in updates, so that at least we have new rooms to play in. How does that sound?

I wasn't going to say anything, but I noticed that too!

There's an invitation to modders with a link to the source code right there on the Receiver page. But any tools or specifics on HOW to create mods are sadly absent. Best I can tell models are made in 3DSMax, but that's only based on a screenshot I saw in the source repository.
