Future plans for the engine?
Future plans for the engine?
I've taken notice that a lot of the engines mechanics such as combat and maneuvering resemble a more deep version of the mechanics from the Star Wars Jedi Knight series, and I was wondering whether there were plans of letting other developers use this technology for their own games and licenses. I'm actually neither for or against this (As much as I'd like to see Jedi Knight IV using this system), But just wondering?
Re: Future plans for the engine?
I'm pretty sure David said that after he's done with Overgrowth he is going to work on software to enable people to create games easily( I haven't seen much information regarding this though )
As far as Phoenix goes, i can see it going open source or at least using the same structure as udk uses
Heck!I'd love to be able to make my own games using Phoenix rather than UDK, because these guys deserve it, but I believe that the main features in OG are already too hardcoded into Phoenix so if it ever becomes a public game engine,it will only be viable to games that resemble Overgrowth

Re: Future plans for the engine?
Yeah, that's all about right.
David has ideas, as far as I've heard, to work on an engine that is truly universal. He wants to make it so that any type of game can be made on it, rather than just psecific types.
The Pheonix engine is very much hard coded for OG. It's purpose built for this type of game, so a shooter would be very tough.
