Disguising Turner in any way would be a nice addition, like getting all real-life sniper and putting on all the camouflage to hide himself better in the bushes. Or, just skins would be a very cool thing too... but also very gorey. Seeing as some members of our Lugaru community are young, that's not looking like a good idea unless it could be censored. ;)
Lugaru 1 wasn't exactly a kids game..
Graphic violence and adult themes, if they would be too young to see a Turner wearing a wolf pelt than they probably shouldn't have been playing Lugaru 1 either =p

The pelt thing doesn't have to be gorey though.. if it were realistic it would be gorey, but it could be implemented tastefully.

Ya, I'm pretty sure skinning is for all ages. They did it in a bunch of movies (well, I can only think of that crappy movie uh... Brothers Grim is it called?), and haven't you seen any of those channel 9 documentaries? Also, I think the main thing is, these are animals. Skinning ain't so bad, specially since skinning isn't really a bloody process. Though skinning people is bad, that's the kind of thing that gives Silence of the Lambs an R rating.

And if you're talking about wearing wolf pelts. I don't really know why though, people do it all the time (viking movies!).

Or not, I can't tell in writing. You're probably joking aren't you?

I like the NPC reaction stuff though. I think it would be cool to wear a fur coat and look all bad-ass to all the other rabbits. Can't imagine what a wolf would do if you were wearing his friend...

Maybe in some spots you should have to wear stuff like Wolf pelts. Like the snow levels, maybe you could stop all the negative effects of being cold when you wear the suit. I doubt Turner will have the time to grow his own winter coats, especially if he travels between desert and winter landscapes all the time.

/me skins Zantalos and wears him to sneak up on Zip and skin him too.

Now, would you look at that as a "for all ages" thing? ;)

Well, I wouldn't mind this, but aren't we going a bit too far with our random ideas? o.0

Well, even though that's funny as hell, that's what I said earlier! You can't compare skinning animals with skinning humans, while skinning people is homicidal, animal skinnings has been an extremely important aspect in the hunter-gatherer way of life (heh heh, probably not but, nobody cares if that new actress is wearing 40 animal skins for her new oufit. It's all about Turner needing to skin for their pelts).

Also, you can't sneak up on people just because you're wearing a suit, if anything you'd get spotted easier (unless you're dealing with something really dumb... like buffalo). The only thing a fur coat would provide is warmth, minimal protection, and hidden smell. That's the main reason why you wouldn't be able to sneak on things other than wolves, it's not like I'm going to smell Zip just because he's not wearing a freaken wolf pel... Never mind anyways, yeah I bet if David did it right, it would be pretty gorey. Not to people who don't really care about that, but I'm sure alot of people who aren't used to channel 9 would see skinless wolves as a put off. I like the idea for wearing wolf pelts but uh, if it's a viable problem, you could just skip that whole process of animating and texturing and go Oblivion style, hit spacebar on the wolf and you'll find he's already carrying his own pelt in his inventory!

*shudder*

Actually that reminds me - I believe it was mentioned by either Jeff or David (I'm sorry I can't remember which) that they are planning a Diablo-styled inventory "but 3D and cooler" to quote Jeff :)

Fine and dandy.

But I'd just like to voice that I really liked the way that you were very limited weapon-wise in Lugaru, the one-item-on-belt-one-in-hand was superb.

I suppose I'm worried that we will suddenly find out that we can carry diablo-esque amounts - pocketfuls of swords and spears!

And if we don't have a bag or clothing where exactly is turner going to keep his inventory?

Where possible I'd like things to make sense. So small bags, slings and the like will give us more inventory space, but also encumber us more.

I'm assuming the game is going in this direction already to a lesser or greater extent.

It just gripes with me if i can pickup a staff which is as big as my character and put it "away" and its not visible... where the hell have I put it?

You can't put a pole-arm in a pack!

*mini-rant over: it is safe to come out*

The current view on inventory is similar to yours - it's going to be realistic. If you want to carry Diablo-esque amounts of stuff you're going to have to hire a dude to carry it for you. There's no magic backpacks or anything. You will be able to carry around a large backpack or sack with which you can store things in using the 3d interface, but you probably will want to drop it before battle. If you need more throwing knives, you can run back to your bag and load up.

Eh, we'll see about that. There is no official release date and I can't guess when it will actually be finished with any degree of accuracy. We will continue working very rapidy throughout summer, but once school starts, things might get kind of slow.

I thought that.
Still, anytime before this time next year, and about a year after that, is still incredible. xD

Man, that's just so awesome when you think about it. First of all, moving away from an Item list based on wieght, sick! Moving away from a 2-d grid and going 3-d? Sick! That's like... drop stuff in your backpack and watch it roll around, amazing!
Oh, and Packrats? Sick, that's going to be like well I can only compare it to games like Dungeon Siege's donkeys but, it could be like this awesome 'pal' system (pal as in Monty Python's Holy Grail, those horses they got were hella tight, complete with coconuts and stuff). You know how you always use your buddies in Fallout to carry all your crap, but then they just end up getting killed in fights or basically getting in your way and making combat hella annoying? (mainly because it's turn based) Lugaru's style would work hecka awesome with buddies, not only that, but the different movement types could give them dynamic personalites too.
Lethargic pack rabbits would definitely be the crowd pleasers.
The only problem as with most buddies would be the pathfinding, I'm betting it's going to be damn near impossible to get a buddy to follow you around some tricky situations, specially since you can easily jump for miles onto high platforms that computers can't seem to get to. They either get stuck behing walls if you move to fast, or they just can't figure out how to jump to where you are. It would be sorta awkward, but it's going to be hard to make complex pathfinding without going FF8 style (where your buddies follow your exact foot movements, down to the tail chasing), that would be cool and neccesary to do during some places, but might look a bit funny when you're just running around plains and stuff. How are you guys going to manage that? (oh, well I see there's nothing wrong with giving them a wait here option. Less you want them to be with you cuz you ain't coming back :) )
And that dropping off your stuff before fights? It's nothing groundbreaking however (though games never consider prepping for fights so... I guess it would be a brand new style for games! One that doesn't involve you hitting a number '4' before a fight. For me, hitting number '4' gave my dwarf hunter a better ranged attack on WoW), that would be an awesome thing to do! I always imagine that scene from Saving Private Ryan where they leave their stuff before attacking the MG42 nest and Upom stays even though their medic is the one that gets hit in the spine anywa- Nevermind but yeah, dropping your stuff down is going to feel so badass.
It'd be equivalent to taking off your jacket before a fist fight, cept in Lugaru it would have an actual meaning other than your fear of getting your outfit a little ripped.

Yeah, go Mace Windo style and fling your rope off while doing a flip. You know, case you get caught on fire or something, now that's rad!

Oh, oh! The robe could get blown off in the wind, and you'd have to chase over the hills trying to catch it!

Alpha Wolf:We meet again, Turner.
Wind:-woosh-
Turner: GOD DAMN THAT WAS MY GRANDMOTHER'S! -runs off in chase of his robe-
