Hello everyone!

Post by SilentSouth » Wed Apr 20, 2011 2:45 pm

Just wanted to say hello to everyone here as a new user.

So far Wolfire has 'wowed' me, i am really impressed with what i have seen, and overgrowth has so much potential. I am getting my new custom built computer delivered some time next week and i can most deffinatly say that i will be pre-ordering the game as soon as i get it to join in with the Alpha testing!

I'll be stalking the site for a while so talk to you all soon.

I'm a new guy too, ascending over from the indie site Hamumu's forums. I've been looking for some 3D indie games to support, and may have found them here. I saw some Overgrowth engine play on YT, and thought it looked really good.

If you see my posts on Mumu, you'll notice I'm a fan of open-world 3D, as well as destruction of your environment (well, smashing or blowing up crates and other items to find sweet stuff inside). Overgrowth looks more fantasy and karate-focused, but my support and enthusiasm (and my wallet-opening) will grow if something like this is implemented. (I guess it seems rather big-headed to suggest the creators would add that in just for me, but at least wanted to bring it up. ;))

Anyways, game looks great for four guys working. I hope it pans out to be something I can support!

I think you would be surprised, from what i've seen the developers here really do listen to other peoples suggestions.

The idea of breakable objects would be great and i'm sure they would be implemented if enough people supported it, don't forget the game is only in its Alpha stages so there is alot more to come.

I hope they don't blindly follow the majority's voiced opinion.

I have nothing against them implementing cool stuff they want to see in the game, but they shouldn't feel obligated to add in stuff just because lots of people would like to see it. For example, ranged weapons are cool, but they can make melee combat less fun, so balancing them will be hard.

I don't think there will be automated object destruction, but it's always possible to script in a custom object that breaks down.

Personally I think it depends on the situation, or what people want implemented.

Awwww... well, I can always hope. (It's still possible this just isn't my kind of game; I was referred here, but I'm used to less complex FPSs.) To me it doesn't seem like it would be a huge deal to implement it - like crates, barrels, vases, etc. with rewards of some kind inside - but I'm no programmer.

If that doesn't get implemented, perhaps they would consider adding in some form of reward for exploration - secrets - or voice acting to lead the story. (I mention the voices because I played the demo for Lugaru today, and while I loved the jumping ability, colorful environment, and music, the text screens and dialogue were lacking in emotion and conviction, if you will.) With open worlds, its always awesome to stumble across some bounty every so often; it makes the vastness seem benevolent, I guess. (Like gold, gems, food, machine parts, potions - IDK, I'm just listing possibilities.) :D

Yeah ofcourse they are not going to just implement everything as long as the majority want it, because that would take away the fact that it is their project and their work of art. But at the same time they want to keep all of us guys happy, and if someone comes up with an awsome idea that the developers like themselves and a lot of the community supports it then it has a good chance of being implemented in my opinion.

I do like the idea of hip throwing an enemy into a table that smashes into pieces.
