There's a topic on SPF I put up showing my character's prgoress. I decided to try Sculptris. Ninjas mentioned it on a blog post once, and I decided to try it. I actually didn't try to sculpt in the fur because it was so complex, so what I did was this:
I imported my fox.obj, set it to symmetric (this is the second draft of the texture now, the first one isn't symmetric), and went to paint. As this is the second run, I increased the resolution, as the first was too low. I used the fur texture and dabbed and pulled it to create a detail in grayscale. I saved this and then reloaded the original .obj and painted on the colors I wanted blurred them where needed, and saved it as the fox_color_overlay. I used PaintdotNet to mix the two. I set the color layer to multiply over the detail.
The result of the first texturing is in that SPF topic. I'm in the middle of the color map of the second texture. After this, I plan to do a clothes concept, use Sculptris to add the clothes, and then texture that, using the same technique. Hoping to get the character working with Blender 2.53 for the io_phxbn codes. Thanks for the help, though. That's going to be helpful for other things later on. I've never worked with AO before, so I'm glad I can learn some.
