Polyoptics, complete support. This truly is a golden opportunity for Wolfire to revolutionize multiplayer gaming. I personally would be happy to wait two extra years before OG's release if it meant that there was going to be multiplayer.

I wouldn't be willing to wait two years until single-player campaigns were finished, if the only thing I'd be getting for it would be multiplayer.
Also, game tech marches on so fast that waiting for two more years, Overgrowth's physics and animation tech might be much worse compared to the competitors. That'd severely cut down the not-preordering part of the target audience.

It was a metaphor for how awesome it would be; and worth it.

In that case, you can interpret my reply as a metaphor for how interested I am about multiplayer.

We obviously have differing opinions. Just curious: do you not like multiplayer games? For the sake of hypothesizing, if multiplayer was hella easy and they whipped it out in a day, would you not play it?
So many developers rush their games and release half-ass thrown-togethers that interest people for 6 months, then are forgotten. Multiplayer adds a much-needed longevity to game, which is especially useful for struggling indie game devs.
Even from a creative perspective, I think it's total BS to rush out a game without exploring all directions you can go with it. There's so much potential from blue sky to green light.
All in all, I think it's a big mistake to pass up multiplayer as "too hard".

Competitive multiplayer is competitive first, fun second - at least for me. For example, while I play League of Legends, I play it to get better at it. That's how I enjoy it. I don't try out ridiculous builds or weird champs or other stuff like that. And I can't see Overgrowth being anything but competitive. I also can see myself sucking horribly in it. Even if I tried it, I would get burned out with it. The co-op more could be great though, didn't consider that when I wrote the comments above.

Longevity doesn't help the devs. They get money for sales, not for making a good game, just like the big companies. Since you can't tell if you'll play a game 10 hours or 100 before you try it out, most people aren't willing to pay anything extra for games that promise longevity. Many people also want to pay less for indie games than they're ready to pay for big publishers' big titles. So if adding features and making a longer game don't increase sales much, but do increase costs...

poly you are like a broken record...
I'M SURE ALL OF US WOULD LIKE MULTIPLAYER, SURE WHY NOT?! BUT IT'S A POSSIBILITY THAT IT MIGHT NOT BE THERE, SO JUST KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED!

Agreed, they are sitting on a gold mine! It would be nice to see some simple tests just to get an idea of what it could be.
I almost missed your post through the trolls.
underthedeep:
If you don't want to discuss multiplayer, why post in a thread about it?
Endoperez:
You say - "Longevity doesn't help the devs. They get money for sales, not for making a good game"
You post against ideas for no reason other than that they might take time away from the pursuit of your own. Then you add that line up there to top it off. Wow, you have truly surprised me!

Well, it's getting old. Yeah, multiplayer might be cool, but it'd only be competitive. The only fun would be after stressing your way through a fight. It's like Tomb Raider. Those games were not fun, they were hard and that' why they were played. And multiplayer IS PLANNED! LISTEN!!! The devs would love to give multiplayer a whirl, but it's not a high priority because it isn't the main game. They call the main game 'main' for a reason. And if we get multiplayer, it's more likely that it will be co-op than deathmatch or capture the flag.
And it's not trolls, it's people telling you that what you're asking for is planned, but not guaranteed. Trust us, it gets really tiring seeing another "multiplayer liek in CoD, plz Wolfire" thread. Better grammar or not, you might get what you want. David just said in a forum post that he didn't like concrete plans, but that things would be done from the ground up. So that's how it's going to go. Multiplayer is an extra that some people will appreciate and others will not touch too much, except co-op which is kinda in between. That may please more people.
If we were "Real" trolls we would come in, not use the search feature to find a million posts saying multiplayer, and then post a thread asking for it and then call people trolls for saying what needs to be in a FAQ on the forum.
I'm not trying to be mean, don't take it that way. I'm telling you that you are asking for something that has been mentioned before, is a possibility, and is an extra feature when compared to single player.
Capiche?

The only multiplayer i would like are lan and online duels and co-op, and things like mod, maps, and campaigns downloadable ingame, with an easy mod manager. That is kind of hard to do, but the devs obviously support modding, and they spent so much time with the level editor. somthing like Gmod toybox or LBP level system would work for levels and campaigns, the mod manager shouldn't be too hard either.

Yes, I don't agree with you. That's what most discussions are about, after all. However, I'm not saying that my opinion is any more important that yours, or that Wolfire devs should value my opinion over yours. If I've done that in this thread, I apologize.
Also, about "that line" - that's the truth. It's ugly, and unfortunate, but still the truth. There's not (in all cases) an economical benefit for adding extra features into a game. I'm not happy about it, but it's one of the reasons why there are so many sequels released compared to original titles, and why so many "original" titles follow one of the few existing formulas (e.g. typical FPS, typical multiplayer FPS) with very little variation in it.
