I just preordered the alpha and was directed to the preorder panel page. It then told me to make a forum account and "Once you have created an account, please use the form below to instantly add your account to the SPF". However I stupidly misread and thought I was supposed to make an account below. I entered the name "Austin" in the box to see if it was available. Apparently it is taken and the message "You should have SPF access under the name 'Austin'. Please contact us if this is not accurate."

I'm here to tell you this is not accurate. Someone else owns the account "Austin". I went ahead to the forums and made my own account named "Murph" but I can't give it SPF access because the page thinks my name is Austin. I gave SPF access to someone else's account!!

This is what I get for skimming a page rather than reading it. Guess I was too excited to play the alpha. I sent all of the above to [email protected] so I hope they get back to me and can fix this issue. I hope the user 'Austin' enjoys his SPF access.

I did email [email protected] several hours ago. I didn't include any preorder information because I wasn't sure what to include. All I got in my confirmation email was my unique URL.

Edit: I have now sent an email with my order number in it. I hope this gets sorted out soon. :/

Don't worry it should. The devs are really great about helping folks out when they get in this kind of a pickle. In fact, this happens all of the time.
Jeff, is there a notice on the preorder page that says you need a forum account first? There really should be.

In giant flashing yellow and purple text, with a mind reader that disables their computer until they read it (which would suck if such a thing existed. Imagine all of those ToS Agreements you ignore).

As I said, it was my fault because I didn't read it properly. They can take their sweet time fixing it since it was my error. :p

I think the page should be changed slightly to prevent dumb "skimmers" like me from doing this sort of thing. Make the first step have a GIANT link that brings them to the account registration page. Then much farther down it gives you the entry box to give the SPF permission. Or the permission could be on a separate page once you confirm you have an account. Idiot proof it, ya know?

Yes, that would be good. Although defining idiot proof is rather difficult. Idiots seem to find so many creative ways to be stupid. No offense, to you idiots out there. We love you just as much as we love our grammar nazis and rage machines. (Not pointing fingers or anything)
