Hi Everyone! Im sure it question was asked earlier, but i can`t find answer.
I'm developer and i wanna make game. I think your team doing very great work, animation behavior and editor look amazing!
Can i use its engine, and what can i do on it? Can i create custom game and expand the current functional?
Where can I find a description of features of the engine and learn about the plans for its development?
P.S. I wish you every success and pardoned me for my english)
Custom game
Re: Custom game
As is, the Pheonix Engine is not complete. David still expands upon it every week, so it would be pointless to develop a game in it right now.
The engine has been purpose built to produce Overgrowth, so it's geared towards games of similar structure. A shooter would be tough to make. I tried to make a gun mod once, but I didn't have the time to keep working on it and the engine functionality wasn't geared for ranged combat like that.
You could, in theory, make a total conversion of Overgrowth as is.
Other than animations, which currently can't be custom made, and different structured rigs, you can create custom content on all fronts of Overgrowth's data.
I've made weapons, armor pieces, props and characters completely custom. Levels can be made easily and you can replace the music in-game as well. You can easily create your own particles and sound groups as well, for whatever you need them for.
However, the game engine will change each week, and so you'd need to update all relevant data pretty often, when relevant things got changed.
As far as I know, David will not be using the Pheonix Engine once OG is done. I believe he plans on making some ultra-cool, truly universal game engine, but don't quote me on that.
I would guess that he will release the engine open source and free to use, but that's entirely up to him.
In short, at this point there is no use in creating a custom game with the Pheonix Engine. However, once Overgrowth is done, it may be very much worth looking into.
