Should I get it? [Overgrowth]

Post by Littature » Fri Jan 11, 2013 1:13 pm

Hey guys, I was recently intrigued by this game called Overgrowth when I first saw it in a let's play series. Now I would love to support Wolfire and get Overgrowth. And so I was wondering.
Should I go for it? Is it worth it? In fact if you lovely people on the Wolfire forums can convince me to buy it, I will go ahead and do so right this instant.
Thanks in advance! :D

Of course you should! Unless, that is, one of the following things puts you off of it:

Are you sure your computer can run it? It's still unfinished, so the game is running quite slowly on many computers that can run other games fast. Good CPU and graphics card are essential.

There isn't a plot or a game yet. There might never be online multiplayer (local multiplayer with an X-box controller is available though). The fighting is fun, but there are no super-cool missions with cutscenes and scripted events. Just a level and enemies. I believe the devs are working on implementing some sort of arena mode next, but we've got no idea if and when that's going to appear.

The community is nice, though, especially if you want to mod something. It's possible to add custom characters, weapons, models, attacks, textures and so on, although you need to use an external 3D program such as Blender for that.

There are some interesting mods and maps out there already:

Hey Endoperez! Thanks for the quick reply. I'm pretty sure my PC is capable of running it. The game does look verry pretty doesn't it. I don't mind bugs in a game that is just in Alpha. A plot would be nice, but I read the game is a sequel of Lugaru which I believe did have a plot (?) So I'm pretty sure they'll come around to doing one.

The combat and free-running really does look like great fun! :D (Slow Motion too). And a strong community is also really welcome.

I have decided I will help fund their project and get the game. You have convinced me enough! My next post, will be with the pre-order tag!

Cool thing is, the avatar now does have the preorder tag. Welcome to the Preorder group!
