Overgrowth leaving alpha?

I was wondering, this game is in development for around 1-2 years or even more, I personally have Lugaru on steam and I've enjoyed it and since I've seen this game come out I wanted to wait for it to go into beta stages before actually buying it, the reason I wanted to wait is because I wanted a stable game(games in beta stage are much more stable and more reliable to actually work well)

so I'd like to know, when is overgrowth leaving the alpha stage and going into the beta stage? I've seen lots and lots of updates in each alpha version(currently 198.. lots of updates..)

So when will it go further in the stages?

We don't know.

One of the reasons Overgrowth is in alpha because there's no "game" - just an engine with some fighting mechanics. The first game-like content, the Arena, is being worked on right now. The difference from a normal level is that you can win or lose, and the game keeps track of it, and shows it to you in some way - in Arena, by giving you new enemies to fight.

The game has actually been really stable for its whole Alpha stage. There have only been a handful of alphas where the game crashes in a way you can't avoid during normal gameplay. For example, loading a specific object or a specific level might crash the game, but if you're just playing instead of editing, it works.

The current alpha actually has the crashes, it seems to be something related to playing the arena mode for a certain time, or fighting a certain numbers of matches, or something. Still, that's once every 15-20 minutes, and this is the worst it has been in a while. If you just want a stable game where you can test the mechanics, the Arena mode is probably going to be in a good shape in a few months - even if the game might still be in Alpha.

I think I'll wait for the next alpha stage then(199) for the fixes.
