How well is this game optimized so far?

I can play games like planetside 2 and skyrim on max, but my Ram is only 4 gb, was considering on pre-ordering this game, but I'm wondering how well optimized it is if I wanted to do custom maps and stuff? Also in the pre-order section of the forums, did people make a lot of custom maps for people to download? And are they pretty interesting enough to where I don't really have to worry about making my own levels to enjoy the game.

Also lastly, are they planning on lowering the price for pre-orders to $25 or $20? I think the full cost of the game could be $30, I don't want to buy this game then it won't run well on my pc lol.

Well, what are your PC specs? Here is a chart with some of cards that are proven to work with the game if you want to take a look. : http://wiki.wolfire.com/index.php/Supported_Video_Cards
I would say the optimization is ok to a currant extant, having a lot of A.I, blood, and a lot of physics happening on screen will lag the game quit a bit. A few alphas ago they did so refactoring and optimizing so it will support a wider range of hardware, but there is still a lot of work with optimizing. For now though they are focused more of adding gameplay and stuff before worrying about that stuff yet.

Ok thanks, and last questions are will 4 gb be enough for playing the game for 1-2 hours? Or will that slow my game down.

Also in the pre-order forum, are the maps really awesome? I'm sure I don't want to spend 90% of my time creating, and 10% actually playing. Once again will my 4 gb ram hold me back on playing custom maps?

Well I have 8GB but for me most of the time the game just uses 2.75 gb of my ram so I'm sure you are fine with that. :0 What is your CPU if I may ask?

AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 945 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.0GHz

I am using windows 7 also. I been subscribed on youtube for a while, and always read the comments for this game and staying up to date, but I seen complaints on comments about crashing, has that been solved, cause I was planning on getting this game in maybe 5-6 hours.

I don't mind if the game crashes now and then, but if it's constantly every session then I'd get annoyed.

It is an alpha, so you will have to expect occasional crashes. My game sometimes crashes after 20 minutes, but I have also managed to play it for more than an hour and my specs are lower than yours.
The fact that there is no campaign means that a crash will not really mean that you will lose anything, unless you are in the middle of creating a huge map and haven't saved your progress regularly.
But remember that preordering means that you will get every update from here on (and Receiver and Low Light Combat). And the community is creating new content constantly. There are well over 100 maps available now, and custom characters, and custom objects (weapons, stuff for creating levels and so on), and mods that are totally crazy (First person mod, Flying mod etc.).

That sounds great, I'm expecting problems since it's alpha, I just wanted it to be playable for something that's $30, I'll pre-order this game then.
