Humble (Indie) Bundle

I'm curious as to what people's thoughts are on the expansion of the Bundle project to include public developers. I see this as a way to bring in a wider spectrum of customers, while still retaining the ability to expose indie developers to the market. However, the opinion of my friend, a die-hard indie supporter, bless him, is that the Bundles should be indie-exclusive. He thinks that the prevailing game developers already receive enough publicity and demand. As much as I admire that standpoint for its pro-indie values, I think the fact that well-known developers already have a hold on the market is more reason to throw their games into the Bundles. It just means more money for charity.

Thoughts?

It sounds like your buddy can't see the forest from the trees.

There was JUST an article on the Humble Bundle over at Euro Gamer that details the project's beginnings and the strategic decisions that those involved have had to make.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013- ... ble-bundle

They make no bones about the fact that inviting big name Devs into the Bundle was a initiative to draw more gamers. Check the #'s in the article, it has had an enormous boost in sales and donations. How can that be a bad thing? Get a bunch of casual / non-indie gamers to buy a bunch of games for any price. Make them feel happy and awesome about doing something different instead of standing in line for the next COD. You bet they are going to shell out for the next bundle. What do you put in the next bundle? A bunch of Indie titles.

If your buddy is so dedicated toward the success and survival of the Indie game, then he should be down on his knees praising the guys over at Humble Bundle. They have brought SO MUCH exposure to his beloved Indie game companies. What would his alternate scenario be? Just relegate the Bundle to the same old core audience of dedicated Indie Gamers? That is just going to end up in a circle-jerk of players stroking each others' ego over already owning all the titles released in the next (Indie Only) Bundle.
