Drugs/Potions in Lugaru 2?
If I remember correctly, i believe David said something about the mental state of Turner affects his healing and stuff, and the possibility use of Drugs earlier.
I was thinking about This for a moment.
Drugs are mind altering and addictive from what I hear.
This could affect Turners/the Main Characters mental state (I find it hard to visualize Turner doing such crude methods willingly, but for game play and tactics sake)
a List of ideas:
Slow-motion herb (Snail stick? (not from snail)):
Effect: depending on dosage, can slow down the apparent speed, allowing quicker flow of the thought. (Slow-mo)
Also has painkiller effect.
OD: Can cause strange hallucinations (think really wacky warping of people around you) and increases the chance of miscalculation. Things may seem like they are moving when they are not.
Long term effect: Addiction (causes recipient to crave the herb, decreasing mental state each unit of time)
Furry Mushrooms (Mushrooms with furry spores that are inhaled.)
Effect: Increases clotting and healing.
OD: Chronic vomiting
Long Term effect: Decreased Health/Endurance/what ever.
Painsbane (Some sort of herb that can be eaten)
Effect: Fast working Painkiller.
OD: Vomiting/Foaming at the mouth
Long Term effect: ???
What do you think guys?

Don't worry, there is no rule saying that I have to include everything that anyone suggests
I wrote up the plans for Lugaru 2 when I first started working on it, and they haven't changed much since then.
However, I am planning to include food and herbs that have various properties, mostly related to healing or poisoning. That is not really going to be a focus in L2 though. Since rabbits are more susceptible to poisons than many of the other creatures, they are less likely to experiment with unknown substances.
I am hoping to have much deeper support for modifications than L1, but that will mostly be as a result of making more modular development tools; the game itself is a higher priority than the game engine.

You keep saying this... every time someone says something that they think would be cool to see in Lugaru 2, you just bitch about the game never coming out because we make all these suggestions. Who cares!Ultimatum479 wrote:That's it. I officially give up all hope of Lugaru 2 _ever_ coming out.
Instead of wasting people's time with these pointless one line remarks, just say that this idea is dumb because of this, or flawed because of that, or what would make it better, or something else interesting. People _know_ all these things won't be in Lugaru, they don't care, they just want a place they can talk about Lugaru 2.. and not just about the specular mapping and the new sky shaders and everything else they know for _sure_ is in the game, they want to talk about everything possible, impossible or even totally irrelevant that could be in Lugaru 2, it doesn't matter. And it doesn't matter that there are all these ideas floating about about what would be cool to see in Lugaru 2, you don't have to worry about David writing out all these things on a half mile long 'to do' list and postponing the game until 2010 because of it. David already knows how to make great games all by himself, he doesn't need to put in any of these ideas when he knows what's right and what isn't.
So, why do people keep posting suggestions then? Because it's simply fun to make suggestions. Don't be afraid that anything we say is going in the game.

A: If you really don't mean to have any of your ideas in the game, don't try to make your ideas sound like real suggestions.
B: If you keep getting your hopes up that thousands of little details will be in the game and then Lugaru 2 comes out without them, it won't live up to your unreasonable hype, and you won't appreciate it for the great game it'll be.
That is why I say that.

You misunderstand, we don't expect them to be in the game, we do suggest them to be in the game.Ultimatum479 wrote:A: If you really don't mean to have any of your ideas in the game, don't try to make your ideas sound like real suggestions.
Hello? Learn to read. We are not getting our hopes up, we know that 90% of all suggestions won't make it into the final game. Or an even higher percentage, in fact.Ultimatum479 wrote:B: If you keep getting your hopes up that thousands of little details will be in the game and then Lugaru 2 comes out without them, it won't live up to your unreasonable hype, and you won't appreciate it for the great game it'll be.
Wtf? So we should... yeah.Ultimatum479 wrote:A: If you really don't mean to have any of your ideas in the game, don't try to make your ideas sound like real suggestions.
Every time someone makes a new suggestion, they should first tell everyone, "hey, I think, don't worry about putting it into the game, I just think... oh god I hope I don't offend anyone. Turner should, and by should I mean, I'm merely suggesting that... no not suggesting, I just think it would be cool, not that it would make the game any _less_ cooler, is if .... etc" Who cares if you make your suggestion sound _real_ or not, what the hell does that mean? People should have to make an extra effort to make their ideas sound fake?
Look, I'm not going to get into a fit just because "mounts" aren't in the game. You think that people will get disappointed about Lugaru 2 because it didn't include every idea that we thought up here. Not the majority of the customers, not even a percent of the amount of people buying Lugaru 2, just a single forum spilling out ideas. How are you going to tell us, argue to us, that what is said here will effect the way we appreciate Lugaru 2 when we are already telling you it won't. We are telling you it will not effect us and you are saying it will acting like a mommy trying to regulate our emotions, "No kids, if you say stuff, it might not come true and your feelings will get hurt." Dude shut the fuck up, your point is shit.B: If you keep getting your hopes up that thousands of little details will be in the game and then Lugaru 2 comes out without them, it won't live up to your unreasonable hype, and you won't appreciate it for the great game it'll be.

No, I'm not trying to be your parent. Parents are supposed to give you advice because they care about you. I'm just telling you to enjoy Lugaru 2 so you can buy it so that David makes enough money to make more games.
As for making your ideas sound like you really mean them, devoting an entire thread to one idea and requesting the entire forum's opinion about it fits that description. At least if it's in that massive thread about random ideas, then I suppose David can just ignore that single thread as a whole...

This is something we're already doing. Don't you understand? Give me one reason not to post all our ideas for L2 on these forums.Ultimatum479 wrote:No, I'm not trying to be your parent. If you made a whole thread for an idea, it would clutter up the forums with about fifteen of these threads, and knowing David pretty well, none of them would be any more likely to be read by David, as he'd probably either treat them all the same, or ignore the whole lot. Maybe we should ask David? Oh wait, he wouldn't respond seeing as this is just a petty flame war.Ultimatum479 wrote:As for making your ideas sound like you really mean them, devoting an entire thread to one idea and requesting the entire forum's opinion about it fits that description. What? You're talking about this forum. Every forum member (especially those posting ideas) is going to buy Lugaru 2, don't try and think you can bullshit with that.Ultimatum479 wrote:No, I'm not trying to be your parent. David posts in that thread dumb ass. David and Jeff even posts there own ideas there.Ultimatum479 wrote:As for making your ideas sound like you really mean them, devoting an entire thread to one idea and requesting the entire forum's opinion about it fits that description. Look, this is what the wolfireforum is about. Blogs, site changes, discussion, ideas, anything that has to do with wolfire software goes here. Everyone wants to say something about Lugaru 2 and they do it here, you are the only person ever to try and stop people from making suggestions and ideas because of what? We won't like the game and David will never finish it? There is no argument here, your arguments are stupid.

Thank you Z, I could not have said it better myself!
Poetry to my ears!
Now, before Quagmire479 Posts any other crap, can we please get back on topic?
Ok, Question to David:
How will the Physical inventory system work?
How will we manipulate and use items?
Will there be more of an GUI for that, or will you stick to the old Lugaru 1 ways and not use an In game GUI? and if yes to the last choice, how are we going to apply Poison to our blade?
