Wouldn't this have been better in the Random Idea Dumping thread?
Decent, if kinda empty idea...Achievement points don't do anything but stroke your own naughty bits and leave you hanging at the end.
If you think about it, Gamerpoints have to be one of the most useless features (but, for some reason highly sought after...) things of Xbox Live. Not bad marketing...

I don't know if this is true, but I have the feeling the random idea dumping thread is being ignored all the time.
They'd just be stuff to do really, maybe easy ones for newbies like-
Finish the tutorial
And then some for those who are just bored with nothing to do-
Flip 10 times in one jump.
Just simple little things, not the kind of things you see in some games, like 10 headshots or something stupid like that, because people just get frustrated with those.

Most people think it's stupid maybe some like being holier then thou for not worrying about achievement points but... I don't know, I think they're fun. Sometimes I masturbate to my own awesomeness for getting these achievements, but you know, I try not to brag to others, I just think some are fun to accomplish for my own entertainment. In Assassins Creed I thought I was a regular bad ass for high profile assassinating someone in the middle of a crowd. I got the achievement out of nowhere and was like... Oh I feel it, I feel them naughty points being stroked, I feel them times being wasted with this stunt, I'm feeling me hanging here all by myself... kidding.
Anyways if there was a subtle way, not like a 360 achievement pop-up while you're playing to show these achievements I think it would be cool (not something like completed tutorial achievement though). David had that idea where if you kill a bunch of people in a fliptastic way, Turner struts in the manner of your own superiority.

Oh, yeah... fliptastic kills and some BREAKDANCING! W00o0o000000000oooooot!
Ahem... randomness aside, 'achievements', like the X360 ones, aren't that necessary... as Grayswandir pointed out, they really only stroke one's... ermm, 'ego'. That said, maybe getting some small rewards, like a little achievement gem that gets stored somewhere permanent, that can maybe be set into equipment for a slight boost, would be nice. And colour-coded to show approximate difficulty to obtain, blue for easy, yellow for medium, purple for hard. So seeing Turner covered in little purple glowing dots would make you want to run the other way.

Well I suppose I must say I agree. Assassin's Creed handled the achievement thing right for the most part, 'cause it mostly made them generally achievable things to do, except for the flag achievements. I got every achievement except for the flag ones during the course of one playthrough...and come on, who's going to waste their time running around looking for flags? That's just boring.Zantalos wrote:I just think some are fun to accomplish for my own entertainment. I think this would be a fantastic idea, although it does sound like it was taken straight from Knights Of The Old Republic, the way you could customise your lightsaber with crystals etc. to give you certain damage bonuses and special effects. It's a fairly simple concept but makes customisation a LOT more fun and in depth.Makrond wrote:like a little achievement gem that gets stored somewhere permanent, that can maybe be set into equipment for a slight boost, would be nice.
Heh... I've never played KotOR, nor did I know about that crystal thingy... here I thought I had an original idea and LucasArts beat me to it...Renegade_Turner wrote:I think this would be a fantastic idea, although it does sound like it was taken straight from Knights Of The Old Republic, the way you could customise your lightsaber with crystals etc. to give you certain damage bonuses and special effects. I would actually genuinely love that.Zantalos wrote:David had that idea where if you kill a bunch of people in a fliptastic way, Turner struts in the manner of your own superiority.
Rabbit kick!
Nice aim!
HEAVY IMPACT!
*struts away*
Anywho, maybe turner has a list of things he wants to do at some point and every time you do one he just pulls it out and ticks it off.

Achievement Unlocked:wormguy wrote:I love achievements. Sure, in the end they're utterly useless, but it's kind of fun when you see a little bubble popping up saying Achievement Unlocked. It's not gonna be the reason I play a game, but that doesn't mean they aren't fun.
