Working Black Shades Custom Levels

Post by BunnyWithStick » Wed Sep 24, 2008 10:27 pm

I seem to be the only person who's ever been able to get Black Shades custom levels to work properly, and it's annoying having everyone else think it's impossible, so here is my guide to getting Black Shades custom levels to work.

Step 1: Download and install Black Shades for OS9 (OSX has been tested to NOT work with custom levels, and I'm pretty sure it won't work with the Windows version)

Step 2: Edit config.txt so that "Custom Levels" is set to 1 (If you get an error message about not being able to save in SimpleText format, convert to plain text with Cmd-Shift-T and then save as config.txt in your BS folder)

Step 3: Run Black Shades and play the default custom levels, or edit customlevels.txt in your data folder following the instructions in that file and then run Black Shades and play those levels that you just created

There you go, three steps to getting custom levels to work in Black Shades. You require OS9 or Classic and a Macintosh machine for this to work, however.

I'd try it, but there's no Classic in Leopard, and I'd have to boot into Tiger to try that out; unfortunately, I don't often have reason to go into Tiger ... perhaps I'll try it sometime today though :)

Hi. Just found out about Black Shades. It's genious.

But I'm on windows, and i cant seem to find the customlevels.txt, can somebody send it to me or something? Does it run in windows?

Also, is there a way to get my hands on the source code? I'd like to personalize some things, at least to my own pleasure.

And also never mind about custom levels. Here's the customlevels.txt file missing from windows distribution. It works fine for me.

No, sorry, doesen't work fine.
The only visible change is that if you enable customlevels, you run the game and you just get one level, after that you are returned to the menu.
On windows, that is.

Is there any workaround?
