Diplomacy in overgrowth?
Diplomacy in overgrowth?
Will there be a system in overgrowth that allows players to be able to talk there way out of fighting, instead of having to just run around and kill everything.
IDK, I just think it would add some depth too gameplay.

No, Fighting is the gameplay. It would be just lame to miss all the fights.
Re: Diplomacy in overgrowth?
I suppose your right, but still, if you could talk your way out of harder fights it might actually be helpful.

If you can't survive, surrender, be a n00b, win.

Up to now I've only seen you excel in this trait, nutcracker.nutcracker wrote:be a n00b,
I think Diplomacy is a fine idea. And although it'd be cheesy to talk your way through the game, I agree that there should be some diplomacy in there.
In fact, there was diplomacy in L1.
Hickory just didn't listen, that's all.
But yeah, if there can be a touch of humane (or anthopomorphic rabbitane) diplomacy in there, I'm sure it'd be a plus in the storyline.
Just a hint, though.
Don't get ambitious.

I'd quite like to see some Geneforge style diplomacy in OG.
Probably without the persuasion trait, but it all depends on how many RPG elements there are in the game.

Re: Diplomacy in overgrowth?
seems we're all out to get nut cracker? seems rather silly. hmm I'd rather there not be any sort of diplomacy except maybe in some form of cut scene.
Re: Diplomacy in overgrowth?
For me I'd prefer Mercinaries style diplomacy. (Killing members of certain races makes them hate you until you repay them somehow)
I also mentioned an idea on the blog, which is a way to stop combat without necessarily beating the crap out of enemies. Maybe a special attack that knocks enemies out, like that one ninja pressure point that apparantly exists on the body somewhere.
I played Iji recently, and that game allowed you to actually run past all conflict and completely avoid fighting at all, which changed the story. It should be an option at least. Even if most of us will just beat the crap out of any threat.

I is sad, also being a n00b was an option. Im not choosing it, no need to flame :pCount Roland wrote:seems we're all out to get nut cracker?

Back on the topic train =)
I had a whole post written out but the forum wast stupid and didn't like me so I have to rewrite this all from memory =(
I don't think there would be diplomacy like you'd see in some of those world conquest games or whatever... rather it might go something like this.
let's say you have to go kill this dog person in this temple. Outside you see that a few of them have taken a wolf captive. You can choose to ignore them and sneak by, whatever... or you could go and rescue the wolf. The wolf -could- be a backstabber, enjoying you as his lunch, or he could be grateful and run off to get revenge on the dogs. Or he could run away. This might do a few things. The wolf attacking might get you caught, attracting the guards... or you could use it as a distraction, letting the wolf deal with the guards as you sneak by.
Now, if the wolf survives this ordeal (either by running away or helping you kill everybody) the wolf might put in a good word for you, so later in the game when you have to pass by their den to somewhere they don't come out and try to kill you.
Of course, some other people might hear about this, and think that you're a wolf lover or something and be unwilling to help you or something...
if this makes sense.

ok you can start the train again.
this might be true, but i like him, i enjoy reading what he has to say, and only commented on the burn because it was a good one.Count Roland wrote:I was just saying, lots of people seem to dislike him. to the extent where they publicly flame him.

Re: Diplomacy in overgrowth?
hmm?
no thanks. please just make an action melee game with a great combat system (hope it will be even better than Rune, which already have a great combat system). there is enough RPG games out there.
i just completed Overgrowth without fighting. i skipped all the fun parts. it was awesome fun. so i have no clue how the combat system works at all. but that dosn't matter, because i completed the game without a single fight!!11!11one!!.....
seriously why did you came up with that idea? did you run out of them or? go play some turned based RPG if you want that kind of boring game..
