Are you saying it would be dishonest to show characters in the logo that are actually going to be in the game just becase you can't be some of those characters?

I think it would get more people interested if they saw different characters, it would at least make them check the game out. If they check the game out and go "AWW CRAP YOU CAN'T BE A CAT!" and don't want to get the game, at least they checked the game out, right?

The point of this discussion is not "how can we make the Logo more interesting to attract more people". yes, for that point, more varied characters and such would certainly be the way to go. Include Whaleman while you're at it, that will surely peek people's interest.

I was merely addressing the point of "how can we make it clearer to people what this game is about"

The game has fighting animals. Therefore, we should tell them about ALL of the fighting animals.

It would be a bit misleading if we only showed the rabbit because, while you only play as the rabbit, there are more than just rabbits.

I think if we combined that logo (with all of the animals on it) with the sub-title "Lugaru 2" (or something along those lines) it would explain the game perfectly. It's a sequel to Lugaru, and it's got fighting rabbits.

I'm not quite sure what would be best myself, I simply think the way John's first Design looked was misleading, and there are potentially better ways of conveying the essence of Overgrowth.

Here is second attempt, which I hope is a bit more interesting than my first, but which still conveys the essence of the game:
logo2.jpg
Again, just a quick and dirty photoshop mockup, using some of aubrey's concept art.
  • - It implies action-packed, fast-paced fighting.
    - It implies that there are multiple races, yet doesn't crowd it with showing them all.
    - The positioning of the characters and the fact that it's two against one implies (at least I think so personally) that you are a bunny fighting against others.
    - It is more visually compelling.
    - If I had never heard of OG and saw this I'd be very much interested to find out what is going on. Wouldn't you be as well?
It's far from perfect, but I think it's a good compromise that doesn't even need any text to tell you what the game is about.

If you dissagree, or think you can do better, why not be constructive and make a Logo mockup yourself to show your Idea? Put your money where your mouth is so to speak. ;)
No, it's not meant to be a contest, Just it's far easier to see if an idea works when you can actually visually see it.

If you have photoshop you can get the outline effect by adding a stroke style to a layer with the black silhouette(s).
(Select the layer with the black shape(s), then go into the Menu, Layer->Layer Style->Stroke... and leave all the settings as default but set the color to white)

I doubt the absence of a cat on the logo would impact the orders to that degree...
Plus, that's what box covers and pics are for, right?

Then by that logic none of the little guys standing on the logo would impact that much. So I guess we shouldn't have any. It's not going to make a difference, right?

Anyway, I still don't see what the problem of having all of the characters on the logo is. I can't see disadvantages of having them there. And it would give them a good idea of what the game is about. In fact, having just one or a couple of the characters on there would be more misleading in my opinion.

Frankly to me the group Logo implies something along the lines of this:
Over-analyzing this is missing the point.
Over-analyzing this is missing the point.
A group of travelers, if not friends then at least allies, though they might be different, they stand together. Not quite what the essence of OG is...

unless they split it up, and used different colors. to make it look possibly like there's one side against another, or turner vs. everyone.

Though I'm sure that's not what you had in mind, I can't help but imagine it as this:
Over Analyzing this is missing the point
Over Analyzing this is missing the point
Really though, colors just to designate the different species on the logo... That's just plain silly.

The point was that it'd look silly. The Overgrowth symbol is in dramatic monotone, giving the characters color is missing the point of dramatic monotone.

I think you are right. Something like that, showing action and conflict, is much more interesting than the characters standing statically at a front-angle. I believe that image would make me much more interested in finding out more about the game.

Just for fun, going back to having a tagline, you should try one of these Slogan generators

Possible results include:
  • "If you can't beat Ninja Rabbit, join Ninja Rabbit"
"Watch Out There's a Ninja Rabbit About"
    "It's Ninja Rabbit Time"
    "My Ninja Rabbit beats everything"
"Make Room for the Ninja Rabbit"
"Come see the softer side of Ninja Rabbit"
"Ninja Rabbit - It Does a Body Good"
"Have you had your Ninja Rabbit today?
"Nobody Better Lay a Finger on my Ninja Rabbit"
    "Splash Ninja Rabbit all over"
And ofcourse, you can use other words too, like "Whaleman""
  • "All you need is a Whaleman, and a dream"

Or possibly *insert Chuck Norris joke here, replace "Chuck Norris" with "Whaleman"*
